Its been 10 days since I stopped, but I am still filling up and its getting uncomfortable. Its getting quite painful. Kept me up last night.

How long will it last?

Will anything help?

I know i shouldn't express - that will only make them make more.

What can I do?

cabbage. sounds mad but it works. also those cooling pads the mothercare and boots do are great. make sure you ahve a really supportive bra.

it'll be at least 2 weeks befoer you feel them stop growing. then a few more before they get smaller.

and it'll be months before they stop altogether.

Sage tea can help but tastes horrid. There are drugs that you can be prescribed which will dry the milk up but they are horrid too.

May be worth taking ibuprofen if it's really sore, it's an anti-inflammatory so will help reduce the swollen breast tissue (not a lot but enough to stop you being so sore).

How long did you feed for?

Goatgirl · 06/08/2008 19:23

I fed exclusively for 8 months.
Unfortunately I'm allergic to Ibuprofen but I'll try the tea and cabbage!
Thanks for the advice!

good luck.

have they stopped getting bigger yet? they should be starting to hit their max by about now?

Goatgirl · 06/08/2008 22:41

They seem to be no worse the past couple days so hopefully this is as bad as it gets!
Tried the cabbage tonight - it seemed to work.
It's worth the cabbagey whiff for the relief!

Hmm are you sure you want to quit? If your brain isn't ready, your body probably won't cooperate.

Cold compresses in the evenings should help the engorgement.
