Advise needed - 2 week old hungry and screaming after 4oz bottle - What do I do

Last night my 2 week old took 4 oz of Aptamil at 7pm, then screamed at 9 and settled (cos we had to drive somewhere) and then fed at 10.20 - another 4oz. She then screamed straight after (she did bring up wind but I think she nay have fed too quick - downed the bottle in 15mins) We then tried signing, rocking soother etc and nothing else worked until at 12.15 we gave her more and she took 3oz. Is this just a hungry faze and should I have fed her again?

just feed! tiny baby tummies need feed every hour or two, no point trying to soothe and settle a hungry baby with anything other than milk, if she finishes a 4 oz bottle, you can add an extra ounce. i personally would have offered a feed at 9 before driving...

a newborn should be fed responsivley/ on demand and as much as they need to.

her stomach is miniscule and needs filling very often

Ok thanks - am new to this and trying to do what the formula guidelines say but am obviously distressing the baby. Between that and having to give up b/feeding - we are a bit all over the place

yep, agree with lulu, just feed. The guidelines are only that guidelines. If your baby seems hungry then feed!

if you want some help to try to reestablish breastfeeding, just ask,it is not too late !

you can feed a formula fed baby responsively... and don;t look for patterns or routines this early on

the guidelines will suit some babies, but most will find their own way.

get to know your baby and her cues and when she is hungry

We were the same! New to it and he was hungry! Keep feeding and wind lots!

has your baby read the formula guidelines? maybe she doesnt know how much she is meant to feed and how often?

my second baby fed a lot. all the time. try bigger bottles. once she is finishing 4oz bottles move to 5 oz. if you want her to go longer between feeds she will need to be taking more each feed iyswim?

i demand fed its much easier on you and the baby than listening to them scream because its not feed time yet. and remember things will get better

Feed her as much as she wants as often as she wants it. The guidelines on the formula tins are just a guide - if your baby wants more than 4 ounces then give her more.

If she is draining 4 ounce bottles then make up a 5 or 6 ounce bottle and see how much she takes. If you make her wait when she wants a feed she will get very hungry and drink her bottle too quickly and probably either throw it up or get tummyache. Feed her as often as she wants it, and try and look out for the signs that she is getting hungry eg chewing her hands, rooting sround, getting restless. By the time she is screaming she is very hungry!

Lulu is right, (As usual ) feed as much as she wants,, when she wants and if you do want to re-establish breastfeeding it is totally possible.

Good thanks but i have my work cut out as dd has had so many bottles and is very used to them - we are giving it a go though
