Did anyone have a 2nd baby who bf straight away when the 1st didn't?

Hi I am 36+5 and am starting to get a little nervous about bf this time around. I fed my ds until he was a year old but the early days were a nightmare, he wouldn't latch on to start with and when he eventually did he wasn't doing it right so I got really sore. Just worried how I will cope if this happens again. Wondered if anyone had second babies who fed properly from the word go after a bad experienece first time round?

YES!

DD wa sin hospital for a week as she was very jaundiced. I was very frustrated as I just couldn't get the latch right and had to ask the MWs to help me every bloody time

With DS, he fed very soon after birth, in the delivery suite and I never had a problem with the latch.

Fingers crossed for my third one, due in 15 weeks

and he bf'd for 24/7 the first 6 weeks so watch out just to prove he could do it right!

I had the opposite - first one bf easily, couldn't understand what the fuss was about, second one made me scream with pain - different babies have different approaches I guess

Yes, first time it was hell for about three weeks, then it settled and the pain eased up slowly.
Second time, it was easy peasy, straight away, very little pain at all at all.

YES...ME!

DD1 prem, tube-fed...very poor suck, low milk supply as no contact with DD...loads of tears, stuck to pump, massive infection...gave up through stress of it all

DD2 is now 7 weeks old...sucked like a deamon straight after c-sec...and been going ever since. No problems with latch....just with getting her off HTH

Yep. Ds took a bit of work to get going.

DD came out, pooed, latched on and never looked back

dd didn't feed for the first 3/4 hours or more and the first days were hell, she was either feeding incessantly and throwing up my blood from my bleeding nipples or refusing to feed for whole days due to jaundice.

i fed her for a year but the first months were tough.

ds fed immediately after birth, slept all night long then fed again in the morning. his latch wasn't great but he was a much better feeder from the get go and he kept it down which helped!

Similar to Mamag.

Dd was jaundiced,vomited bile, had phototherapy, was very hard to rouse, ended up being nasal fed, no support from midwives etc.

Within an hour of ds being born a (male) midwife shoved him (almost literally) onto my breast and he/we got it immediately!

I only lasted a month or so though (for reasons to do with me, not poor latch or anything)

Yes - DS was a NIGHTMARE and I gave up completely by 3 weeks. DD who is now 10 weeks has been a dream!

Yes I did. My first dd wouldn't feed at all and I tried and tried. My second dived straight on.

Yes. DS really had trouble latching on. I syringe fed for the first few days. Not 'bad latch' just not any latch. DD went on immediately and hasn't gone 4 hours since (in 8 months). No discomfort or any problems.
I would do a bit of reading on biological nurturing which is good stuff for non-latchers.

took ds1 10 days to latch on, we cup fed him and expressed it was horrid and stressful.

I was very anxious about ds2.

DS2 came out like a babybird wide mouth good latch, no thrush, no blisters, lovely.

Yes, DS was rubbish but DD was keen and despite a tongue tie, we got there eventually. She's now 16 months old and I am surprised to find myself still feeding away in the morning and at bedtime. She's not keen to stop and I don't particularly feel the need to. I am delighted I was able to bf her - I think partly a combination of her keenness and me having a better idea of what I should be doing this time round. Good luck!

Yes, my DS couldn't latch, took ages to get it sorted. When DD was born, I was bracing myself for an almighty struggle getting her latched and just as I was thinking about it, she latched herself!! I did nothing and was really shocked.

yes. ds1 wouldn't latch on until he was 10 days old. had to express and bottle feed until then,
he never latched on properly and I put up with 4.5 months of agonising feeds before expressing full time for him.

ds2 latched on within an hour of being born.
had same latch issues as with ds1, this tiemn however midwife spotted he was tongue tied.
got that snipped and it's been easy peasy so far

yep ds took 3 days to latch on (was starving, so weak and it got scary) whereas dd fed 30mins after being born at 1st attempt. I put it down to very long 2nd stage and ventouse with him and speedy, unassisted delivery with her
