9ozs of expressed milks wasted - I am gutted...

SIL asked me to got he sales with her this morning and was being picked up at 4:45am so got milke out of the freezer for DH to give DD when she woke up - turns out she woke up 10 mins after I left and refused any milk. I got back about an hour later and she wouldn't take if from me either - then an hour alter wanted BF think it was to get her back to sleep.

Can't beleive I ahve lost all that milk!!!!

It can be kept in the fridge for 8 days, don't throw it away!

It was frozen, then warmed up and then left out

Yep. When DS went to MiL's the other week I told her that if she tried him and he didn't want it to put it back in the fridge, which she did. She then took what milk he didn't use at hers back to my house when she bought him home to bed and that was still fine the next day.

I've also thrown away milk that has been in the fridge for a few hours because it smelt off though.

OMG I must have thown still away when I didn't need to - GUTTED!!!!!

Just remember for the future!

We were pretty blaze with my milk too! But I remember that galling feeling when you have wasted milk, or dropped your pump or something. I have cried over spilt milk! It's like watching a few hours break or a lie go down the drain.

great link VS. I didn't realuse you shouldn't shake the milk if it has separated - good tip.

Why shouldn't you shake it???

Because it's composition is special. Shaking it up when it has already separated can damage it, it's better to stir it gently.
Their is a link on that page saying 'don't hake the milk' it explains it better there.

I only ever froze it in 3 or 4oz 'portions', and defrosted in those sort of amounts, as the first few times I tried DD on ebm it was with 7oz that had taken forever to express - which she refused.

Mandy - yes this was in 3ozs 'portions' too, but as went off to the sales at 4:45am had defrosted 3 lots for hubby to given her when she woke up. Had never had to give her a bottle first thing before and she seems to take a bit more than other times so wanted to amke sure there was enough.

My freezer defrosted itself with 3 MONTHS worth of EBM in the drawer. I'd been stashing for DD to have once I went back to work. Gutted wasn't the word.

Sorry about the milk but you'll be OK for next time.

We taught ds to drink it cold, straight from the fridge. That we we never had to worry about warming it up !
