What bottles/teats to introduce for a breastfed 10 month old?

My baby boy is almost 10 months old and I'm due to go back to work. My partner will be at home with the baby (shared parental leave).

He does drink water from an open cup, but not huge amounts, so we think he'll need a bottle or two while I'm gone. I'll be out of the house for around 9/9.5 hours, 3 days per week.

Up until now he's been exclusively breastfed, and I'd like to keep breastfeeding him when I'm at home. We literally just want to give him one or two bottles, 3 times per week.

Does anyone have any recommendations for which bottles/teats we should be using? I think at 10 months old most bottle fed babies would be on a faster flow, but I don't want to encourage a bottle preference or mess up breastfeeding when it's been convenient and working well for us so far.

Thank you so much. I'll have a look at that brand.

At 10 months I wouldn’t bother with the bottles if I am honest. BF babies take so fewer Floz than a Formula fed Lo. He’s likely to only take 2 or 3 Floz and then you’re supposed to wean them back off the bottle at 10 months.

I went back around this age both times. They’re usually fine with a feed first thing and when you get home. DH can give them a snack like peanut butter on toast and a cup of milk during the day if they’re hungry.

Id be more bothered about how DH is going to confort him once you are at work.

Do they regularly have time together, just the two of them now and is DH used to putting him down for naps on how days off?

We went straight to sippy cups to be honest. May have had a few bottles for a bit.

Have you tried him on any bottle yet? My ebf baby refused to take any bottle ever. When I went back to work we managed to find a sippy bottle he would drink from. You need to start trying now or you may find he wont take any bottle!

That is a good point actually neither of my LS (little sods] would even go near a bottle…

We used mam bottles and teats:)

Thank you for the replies! Sorry I missed them.

Yes, we've had a couple of weeks crossover where both me and his dad have been home. His dad gets him to sleep every night while I do bath/story/bed with our 4 year old, and they play together a lot. I'm not worried about his dad being able to comfort him, play with him, or get him down for naps, I'm just a bit apprehensive about feeding.

We've had a practice run today with me out of the house. We tried a MAM bottle before ordering the Lansinoh as we already had some of these in (we bought them when he was younger in case breastfeeding didn't work out). He was fine on the whole, but did get upset after his lunch. He'd eaten, been changed and had napped (so he wasn't tired). He'd had a drink out of a cup but not much (he still dribbles a lot of it), so my partner figured he wanted milk and gave him 100ml from a bottle. He was fine with this, drank it all but didn't cry for more, and that did him until I got home!

Feeling much less anxious about this now. Hopefully we can keep trying him with milk from a cup but have a small bottle on standby if needed until he's managing to take a bit more from a cup. Previous posters were right - he doesn't seem to need much during the day while I'm gone!

At 10 months don’t bother with a bottle. Use a sippy cup, but you can just breastfeed when you’re together and water / food when you’re apart.

I stopped pumping at 10.5 months altogether (I had gone back to work full time at 6 months so was pumping when not home to BF). If they're on 3 meals and a snack, it's enough to BF late afternoon, evening and morning only at this age. This was the advice of our consultant paedetrician (who were seeing at the time for something else). By 12 months, milk is a minimal part of their diet anyway and you are meant to slowly increase food and decrease milk intake
