Can you up your supply after 9 months?

Hi,
I'm still breastfeeding my 9 1/2 month DS and intend to until 1 year when I can give him cows milk. The only thing is, I don't seem to have hardly any milk.

This hasn't been an issue as I've not really known how much he's been getting and he's seemed happy.
I've been expressing a bit recently (going back to work/ night out) and I can hardly get anything out. This morning I have managed 2 oz. (and thats been 12 hours since last feed). At most expressing sessions I'm only getting about 2 oz in total - and that's only if I've not fed for ages. Its so disheartening, especially seeing as I could get oodles of milk just a few months ago.

I'm a bit worried as I'm going away for the night next weekend so I will need to leave a night bottle and a morning bottle.

No idea about supply at 9 months. But I know the amount I express must be far less than ds manages to drink. I have some tricks that help me express a little more. You may already know these, but just in case: warm bath, some chocolate, gently massage breasts (stroke towards nipple) before starting, keep swapping sides regularly. I sometimes get ds to help too - get him to get the let down going on one side, then switch him to the other side and express from the first side, iyswim. took a bit of practice as I don't have 4 arms, but really helps

Thanks mamachris. Will try that this week, not sure how it'll help me at work though (maybe the chocolate will be all I need

I'm just so worried that my milk is running out and I've not got enough.

Your milk isn't running out, it's just adapted to his current needs. The key thing here is:
'This hasn't been an issue as I've not really known how much he's been getting and he's seemed happy'.

He's happy therefore he is getting enough from you.

It's not unusual for the amount you are able to express to go down as your baby gets older.

Also, just a few months ago he was primarily fed on bm, so your supply would have been plentiful as that was the bulk of his diet. I'm assuming he's quite well established on solids so has reduced his bfs accordingly, therefore dropping the supply. You're not running out of milk, your body is using its amazing ability to adapt to demand and is producing enough to match his current needs.

If you can get 2oz every morning between now and next weekend you should have enough for 2 7oz bottles which should be more than enough, I'd imagine. He can make up the difference with water and/or solids and have a mega feed from you when you get back.

Try not to panic, it's all perfectly normal .
