How long after stopping bf'ing are you able to start again and build it up?

Is it possible to re-start bf'ing after stopping cmpletely? If so, up to how long after is it possible?

Am pretty sure I have left it too late...

You can induce lactation years later, grandmothers in other countries have been known to induce lactation to feed their grandchildren.

How old is your little one, just keep putting them on the breast, also pump as often as you can, its definately not impossible.

I stopped nearly 4 months ago. Thats really long isnt it? I only fed him for a couple of weeks and then stopped, now I am regretting it.

I think its probably too late in that even if it did work and i did manage to get some milk back it would probably take so long that he will be much older by then anyway!!

i think really though you need to speak to somebody directly. you can also talk to a bf counsellor about your feelings after stopping bf if you need to.

Not sure what prompted me to regret it to be honest. It was a struggle and I just feel I gave up too easily. But then again if I couldnt cope with the struggle then, what makes me think I could cope with a harder struggle to get it back on track again

The LLL do an excellent leaflet on relactation which you can order over the internet.

It does involve quite a lot of committment tho - you need the best pump you can afford to rent/buy, and you may need to have a phase of at-breast supplementation using something like a SNS. Actually if you did this you and your baby would get the emotional benefits of BFing even if she does not get much of your own milk at the start.
