Is it possible to re-start bf'ing after stopping cmpletely? If so, up to how long after is it possible?

Am pretty sure I have left it too late...

There is research to show that if you have lactated once then you can relactate again, no matter how long it's been. There have even been cases of grandmothers relactating to feed their grandchildren whose mothers have died.

It is a LOT of hard work and commitment, but it is possible. At least one MNetter has done it that I know of so you definitely haven't left it too late.

Tell us more, there are lots of very knowledgable people on here who could get things going for you.

Search for "relactation" on here, there are several threads. I was considering it when DS2 was 6 weeks, but pumping empty boobs was so, so, so painful, I couldn't continue.

What I read, though, was that it is much easier if you'd originally breastfed for a few (ideally six or more) weeks in a row; and it's easier to start within 4 months of giving birth than any longer than that.
