What's the consensus on horseshoe-shaped nursing pillows?

Are they essential? Which is best - Boppy? Widgey? My Brest Friend? Are the inflatable versions any good?
What do people think?

I have a widgey but didnt get on with it after the first few weeks. Too hard, I think a pillow is easier.

not essential
I found normal pillows too squishy so I bought a my brest friend

I bought a Mothercare one but tbh it was most useful during pg and for sitting behind dd when she first started sitting up. I'm now feeding ds and never used the pillow...

inflatable is a godsend, infact a must in your changing bag. Apart from that horseshoe shaped ones I find abit awkward, I prefer V shape and definatly V over a normal pillow. 2 is best (one on lap and one behind) - not essential but once you sit like that you won't want to be without them! Super comfy. I'd get 2 if I were you TBH.

I tried boppy but didnt get on with it.
I liked those crescent shaped floppy beanbag things though.

In the end it's all v personal and if you are like me you will go through phases of being reliant on various elaborate setups with multiple special cushions/pillows in various alignments until suddenly your LO develops head control and demands to be left to latch on himself without the encumbrance of cushions!

I like the v shaped ones with foam inside rather than the bean ones
bean ones are rather lumpy and uncomfortable IMO

I have a Boppy and I love it! Have used it very successfully with DD and DS and am currently expecting no3 and it will be used again!
