HELP! Baby won't feed from right boob

This is the third day and it is getting me down now!

She is my 3rd baby, I have BF them all so I know what I'm doing. She is almost 8 weeks old and feeds well. She also has one bottle of expressed breast milk a day.

The last couple of days she started getting really fussy when I try to feed her on the right but she is fine on the left. I have tried rugby ball position so that she is lying the same way as when she feeds from the left but that does'nt work either. Basically she starts feeding but within seconds she is arching her back and writhing and shaking her head from side to side vigorously. If I wind her she can have several burps but then the same thing happens again. I have tried expressing off a bit first, feeding her from the left first so she is not so frantic, but nothing seems to make a difference.

Anybody had experience of this? I've heard of babies doing this but don't know why or what to do about it. Please help me!!

my ds2 is now 15mths and always hated my right boob. I fed him off it first then off left. He would never settle after right boob... Have fed him exclusively off left boob from 8 mths!!!!!!!!
he is nearly finished feeding now but happily fed off one for 7mths

Has she got a cold? My ds objects to one particular breast whenever he has a cold (frequently!!) I'm not sure if it's because his nostril on that side is more blocked/stuffy etc, but he will refuse that breast when awake. I get round it by feeding him mainyl from the 'rejected' one at night.

ds2 is the same although its my left one! he just slowly started going on it less & less untill he stopped completly. his nearly 8 months now & has just been feeding from one for a good couple of months. ds1 also liked one better then the other, maybe its because they are more comfy in that postion. anyway last few days have just started trying him again as just the one does'nt seem to be enough anymore & he stays on for about 30 secs.

Yes she does have a cold and, interestingly, she has been fine feeding off the right in the middle of the night when she is in a sleepier zone!

Piffle- so did you just stop producing milk from one boob? Did you have enough in the other? And were you not lopsided ?

unusually it was softer but not smaller ( am requesting GP for boob reduction tomorrow - whole other thread I started lol)
it just kinda happened that way, after 8 mths his feeding pattern slowed down a lot as he slept 10-7 and had less in the day.
but at 8 weeks...
just offer one she dislikes first then finish on favoured one..

Well luckily she settles at 7pm and only has one or two night feeds. So you reckon just persist with trying to feed her on it but not get too stressed out about how much she takes from it? Only problem is she gets so distraught an ends up screaming and gulping loads of air so more wind, more discomfort, harder to feed etc etc

Sounds like it will sort itself out when cold is gone then! The other thing I noticed is that the boob ds doesn't want when he's under the weather is his least favourite one anyway - they all have a favourite don't they!?

katpotat · 25/06/2008 20:50

This happened with my dd, I held her the other way round on the left one and it seemed to help....she went back to it again about a 2 weeks later.....the right one was always her favorite too I always offered left one first and finished with her favorite one.

ok well that's all quite reassuring! She will either get over it herself or I will just have to feed her mainly off one breast. Either way, she and I (and my boobs) should be fine
