Been invited to a wedding in Oct when DD will be 4 months old. Will only be able to manage it if I can BF when she's hungry, so will need to be able to BF in public.

Anyone know what the attitude is to public BF in Italy? Don't want to find it's frowned on and I can't do it.

We'll be in Ischia, which is an island off Naples.

I live in Italy and have bf in public without any problems. I think bf is a bit more common here than in UK actually, I have found people really supportive.

Ischia is fabulous btw, I've been on holiday there for the last 3 years. Last year I bf my 3 month old DS on the ferry over It was very crowded but no one seemed bothered.

Have fun, and take your cossie because it can still be quite warm there in october, and some of the spas will still be open, well worth checking out.

I don't have a broad experience of bfeeding in Italy as we were living in the uk when the dc were little. I don't think any of my friends had problems bfeeding in public, at keast in Milan.
I think you'll be all right. Have a great time! (expect lot of people cooing over your dd)

We went on hols to Italy (Lake como) when DS was 4 months old. We had no funny looks at all when I bf him in public, the Italian people seemed very into babies and only had lovely things to say about Ds and the fact I was bfing him.

I would not worry at all nobody really here shows any concerns - If you feel more comfortable drape a muslin / scarf to stop wandering eyes . Ischia in October how lovely great place - I went in Oct it was still pretty warm but we did have one wet windy day.

Oh yes, they worship babies in Italy

I'm in Italy and bfed absolutley everywhere and never got looked at askance. I just used to get a lot of lovely comments and offered glasses of water. I was never particularly discreet either (ie.baby screams, cue much obvious rummaging to get boob out in a hurry). You'll be fine, don't worry.

I'm in Italy and you will not have any problems whatsoever. No-one will bat an eyelid, except to tell you how beautiful your baby is!
The first person who saw me breastfeed (apart from dh) was his 20 yr old male nephew and I was dreadfully shy about it, but he just was totally unphased.
You might not find changing/feeding rooms as readily available though.

I've bf in Italy & there's a wonderful atmosphere - they only trouble you're likely to get is people fussing around you cooing at baby & bringing you drinks etc

I'm big boobed & pretty much whip them out whenever required & I felt completely comfortable.

Amphibimum · 23/06/2008 18:12

oh they LOVE babies in italy. i was there for a month or so when ds1 was teeny and had my boob in his gob for much of the time and no-body raised so much as an eyebrow. and any communication is aaaalll positive.

francagoestohollywood · 24/06/2008 13:23

Bucharest I would have never guessed that you are living in Italy!!!!!!!
