Dietician said give formula for TWO years. Right or wrong?

Sounds a bit batty to me. Has anyone else been offered this advice? DS is 12 months and does have eczema but I don't think this influenced what she said.

She was an old bag too and also I am tired of bloomin' powder scoop counting. Please tell me she is talking a load of old baloney!

Yep - sounds a load of baloney to me too. I presume she was thinking that he has a dairy allergy - if so many children grow out of this in the second year.
Go with your instincts.

I think she meant in general, not just for DS.

He does have a good and varied diet but it is very difficult because he has various food allergies.

Well, I have to admit that we give ds the Next Step soya formula mixed half and half with his soy milk. He is 17 mos. and I plan to decrease it to 1/3 and 2/3 mix this week and continue doing this until he is 24 months. I just figured it couldn't hurt to give him a little extra nutrition and the additives that are similar to breast milk.

My friend still gives formula upto 3 1/2. Might even go on later. Think she's mad!

Elf if he's eating a good diet and isn't malnourished or too underweight then I can't see why. Perhaps she thought it was an easy way of getting extra nutrients into him without you having to try lots of other food.

Well, that's my feeling. It is a bit expensive but doing the mixture does make it last longer and these formulas are especially for older babies/toddlers. DS may just be lucky as being generally healthy, but since he's only had 4 colds in his entire life and not other problems I'm going to continue doing it.

Thanks everyone. Lockets, no I can't remember her giving a reason, I think I was too surprised to ask. We are thinking of giving sometimes formula and sometimes rice milk, soya, or White Sun (pea protein) . You've all made me feel more sure of myself though so thanks. IF he likes them - he made a very funny disgusted face today at the pea protein milk, which in my opinion is a LOT nicer than his revolting formula!

You took the words out of my mouth lockets! I'm still amazed that he likes it because even mixed I don't like the smell.

Depends which formula milk - we had loads of problems finding one which suited DS. IMHO SMA smells gross - the best smelling one seemed to be Farley's - but I suppose it depends on the nose which sniffs!

We don't have a lot of choice in the states. There is ProSobee and one other - can't think of the name but it was rather gritty. Luckily the only comparison ds has is with water so he's okay with it for now .

Not that relevant but ds drinks soya milk because he doesn't like cowsmilk but DoH guidelines advice against soyamilk (?before 2 y old). Possible risk of infertility due to soya plant hormones. So hope ds is not going to curse me in 20-30-?? years time

ds2 on non dairy no soya formula until he was 2, because of allergies.

my dd was on it til 2 and still is, was recommended by a nuturopath/homeopathic doctor, as she breaks out in a rash with cows milk, i use nanny formula with her, plus her appetie was very small and the cows milk was quenching it and since i used the nanny formula its really improved.
it certainly isnt applicable in general.

DS gets very gassy and terrible diaper rash on cow's milk. I didn't know about the infertility risk though
