here's the link
(featured at top of page on MN chat)

now I see that they are trying to tell us that their breast pump is more comfortable on your breasts

but it strikes me there are two meanings of comfortable

and "feel comfortable breastfeeding FOR LONGER" makes me think what they are actually saying is "don't stop breastfeeding although your child is getting OLD now and people will point and stare, because you can express milk and give it in a bottle and no-one will know"

or is it just me?

I dunno - but have you really only got two weeks to go???

Flamesparrow · 19/06/2008 20:27

TWO WEEKS????

I read it as being able to breastfeed and return to work etc - eg, longer...

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 20:27

oh yes

sorry I quoted the ad wrong
"be comfortable WITH breastfeeding for longer"

now that really does read, to me, "be comfortable about the whole idea of breastfeeding an older child"

not "breastfeed with less discomfort"

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 20:29

yes maybe flame
I dunno

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 19/06/2008 20:31

I might be being insanely optimistic about it

tassisssss · 19/06/2008 20:31

it's the "comfortable" thing, isn't it?!

i think Flame's right about going back to work, but that's not really about being comfortable with BFing.

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 20:32

no
I mean "breastfeed for longer"
"breastfeed with ease for longer"

or whatever

but what has "be comfortable with breastfeeding for longer" got to do with the price of fish?

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 19/06/2008 20:33

Yeah, that line irks. But only coz i know the marketing ploy is to prey on the insecurities of b/feeding when in fact, we should be trying to get rid of the reasons behind the insecurites.

theSuburbanDryad · 19/06/2008 20:40

If they got rid of the insecurities behind bf-ing they wouldn't sell nearly as much though!

differentID · 19/06/2008 20:43

maybe they put in an extraeneous(sp) word

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 20:44

well yes, hence them wanting us to feel uncomfortable about breastfeeding an older child, right?

I haven't just imagined this, then?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 20:44

I don't think large expensive advertising campaigns contain extraneous words
I think they weigh the effect of every word very carefully

OP posts:
beansprout · 19/06/2008 20:47

It's difficult to interpret it in another way, so it's the only logical conclusion I reckon.

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 20:48

right.

so.

that's that then.

what happens now?

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 19/06/2008 20:52

Very like the Avent one, "Helping mothers to breastfeed longer"
TT probably liked the sound of it but couldn't plagiarise it

theSuburbanDryad · 19/06/2008 20:53

Um

Nothing.

Isn't that what usually happens?

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 20:55

yes but

we could get cross, or sing a song, or something

OP posts:
theSuburbanDryad · 19/06/2008 20:57

Meh, if you want. I'm too tired and fat.

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 21:05

well I didn't mean us PERSONALLY
perhaps we could pay someone to do it for us?

OP posts:
theSuburbanDryad · 19/06/2008 21:13

Unless they take pocket fluff as currency i would say we're pretty much screwed.

Should i eat strawberries? With cream?
