BFing in public in San Francisco

Are the American's really prudes? I am thinking of Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction.

Is it OK to BF in public in California?

Will be there for 5 weeks for DP's work in the summer and I don't want to have to dive back to the apartment whenever DD needs feeding.

Thanks.

You must be joking! As the gay capital of the u.s., with the most flamboyant gay-pride parade and liberal attitudes, they certainly are the least prude of americans!
Go for it, nobody will bat an eye-lid. If they do, they're not from California.

I'm in New Jersey so on other side, I have to say we are a little prudish over here, but no one would dare say anything to you. One it means that they are staring at you (and who would want to admit to that), and two there is nothing they can do to stop you.

We tend to cover up the baby when we bf in public though, at least I do/did. Let's just say there's nothing discreet about my boobs.

I've never covered up DD when BF in public, although I think I am quite discrete.

We're staying downtown, but I plan to head all over the city, visit friends in the East Bay as well.

Do you know what the legislation is? Can I legally BF in public? Are there laws to stop people from telling me to stop?

"Cal. Civil Code § 43.3 (1997) allows a mother to breastfeed her child in any location, public or private, except the private home or residence of another, where the mother and the child are otherwise authorized to be present. (AB 157)"

I honestly don't believe that anyone would ever tell you to stop, that would take a lot of nerve.

Hmmm, have breastfed many times in SoCal and never covered up. Never really noticed anyone else covering up either but maybe they were just more discreet than me!

I wouldn't worry about it, noone will notice and if they do, they probably won't care.

Have fun out there!
