16 mo won't drink cow's milk

My 16 month DS has been drinking formula since he was 6 months old (Breast fed before)... we have been trying to wean him onto cow's milk since he was 12 month's old, but he just wont drink it. The Nursery has also failed to get him to drink Cow's milk, he will simply ignore it and drink water..

I don't really want him to be on formula any longer, but I also want him to maintain his dairy intake. Has anyone else had this problem ?

Thanks.

We also had this problem my Ds1 now 3.7yrs would not and still does not drink milk! He will have cereal, weetabix needs loads of milk to make it soft, and every day he had a yoghurt and cheese. We have to cut his nails every week and he is really strong. I like you was worried at first but thats just the way he is! Also try to give custard and rice pudding. Hope it helps x

He does like yoghurt, although we have never manged to get him to eat cereal or porrige...he completely skipped the baby rice stage of weaning LOL...

Thanks, that does make me feel better, we will start winding down on the formula, make sure he keeps drinking lots of water and eating dairy products.. and of course, keep trying the milk.

Have you tried mixing the cows milk with the formula and gradually incresing the amount of cows milk you put in e.g. 1oz cows to 7oz fomula for a few days then 2oz cows milk to 6oz formula, etc, etc

my daughter drank no milk at all wheni stopped breast feeding her at 13 months. we found that by offering her a sip off a spoon from our cereal every now and then she gradually got used to the taste and now (aged nearly 3) drinks it fine. have you tried it hot/ cold (whatever is opposite to what you had tried before?). dont worry he will be fine as long as the rest of his diet is ok which i am sure it is....you just have to go for it at some point and he will realise the formula just isnt coming any more!

DD (13mo) won't drink it either. I've just spoken to the HV about it, and she said to just try and get milk into her via yoghurt, cheese and cereal. She said to continue to persevere with the milk, but not to freak about it!!

Many thanks, all of your responses do make me feel a lot better. The hot/cold trick definately does not work, nor does the 50/50 mix, but I will try the gradual mix approach suggested by Seona1973.

It may be that (like his mother..) he doesnt like milk

Same problem here! I am still giving Cow & Gate! I've tried mixing with real milk, but maybe tried too big a proportion too quickly, she looked at it funny. She really likes the Cow & Gate, I hope it isn't bad to give it to her for a long time, especially now she has lots of teeth and it has added sugar.

I have a 13 month old and have been giving her formula for six months. She won't take to the cows milk from a bottle or a cup even warmed up. Though she happily drinks the formula. Should i Perservere with trying it in a cup or cut it out completely in the afternoon as she has three bottles of formula a day plus eats well.
