Baby keeps changing latch

I’m 6 days into breastfeeding. V close to giving up. Nipples are absolutely trashed.

I can’t quite get the right latch despite being shown several times. Sometimes it’s fine and no pain, but on the whole pretty painful.

we will get the latch right occasionally, but after a minute or so she rearranges so that she’s just sucking on my nipple.

someone give me tips, although tbh I'm a couple more feeds into giving up. She is feeding constantly, which I know she’s meant to do, but my nipples are going to fall off.

Firstly for the pain ide recommend using lansinoh nipple cream, it works amazing, I’m 10 weeks into breastfeeding and at the start felt the same, nipple had bubbles on them as baby wasn’t latched good enough was pulling a lot, but even when she was latched good it caused pain because it will take a while for your body to get used to it , remember it’s as new to baby as it is to you , the pain will get so much easier I promise and eventually nipples will be fixed and all this pain will be behind you , my baby is 10 weeks and we still have to adjust latch here and there , a tip I was taught to help get a deeper latch was to basically grab the boob just above and below the nipple to make the nipple flat so it goes into baby’s mouth like how we would eat a burger , try and line your nose up with baby’s nipple so they start to open wide and as soon as they open wide ide push my baby onto the breast as they can’t quite move towards it much in early days , it does take a while to get used to but my best support through breast feeding was the nation breastfeeding helpline : tel:0300 100 0212 0300 100 0212 they are the most calm and kind people and even now at 10 weeks they are my go to for any questions , in my first few weeks of breastfeeding I was on the phone to them every few days, sometimes nattering for a hour and on a few occasions multiple times at night , they will guide you through each step and give you so much detailed advice , and it’s nice just to have someone to call at 3am while struggling with feeding too, I’m 10 weeks in and I would be lying if i said it wasn’t hard, I had this expectation it would work first time and be perfect moving forward but it’s normal for it to takes a while to get used to, your not doing anything wrong so don’t be hard on yourself and don’t give up if it’s something your wanting to keep doing because it is a process and once your through that tricky first couple of weeks it sure does it easier I promise

So sorry that you’re struggling @tralallala.

Firstly, Tongue Tie needs ruling out.

This video should help you with latch.

It might be worth trying some different positions, especially laid back BFing which can make slipping in the nipple more difficult.

Have a read of this on healing your nipples.

And as the PP mentioned, do give one of the BFing Helplines a call.

Congratulations on your new LO too Flowers
