My baby is a month old but hasn't being right since he came home from hospital. He started on Aptamill for the first two weeks but was badly constipated and has days where he spews a good bit. Some days its nearly impossible to wind him.The district nurse recommended switching to Aptamil comfort. That has somewhat helped over the past week and a half but he seems to be suffering with cramps on and off while still suffering with constipation but that has improved but doesn't go the toilet for a couple of days and suffers woth cramps then..Winding seems to be as bad as ever and spewing alot has got worse. I have a feeling he could be suffering with acid reflux. Another nurse has recommended switching to SMA..So we seem to be getting different opinions some say switch some say don't.. I have no idea where to go from here because I don't want to keep switching but I don't want to not switch if its upsetting him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We’ve used Hipp organic and it’s been brilliant xx

Not an expert but I think you need to look at treating the reflux first rather than changing the formula again. Also maybe also CMPA since that often goes along with reflux, have a read of the symptoms and see what else fits. Make a GP appointment and go from there.

All uk formulas are nutritionally the same, and if Aptamil doesn’t suit him and you want to try different ones there’s no way of knowing which, if any, will be any better. The best option might be to get a few bottles of ready made formula and see if it makes a difference, but there’s no brand that’s ‘better’ than any other, so it’s trial and error I’m afraid.

I started on cow & gate. My LO was very constipated and colicky so the health visitor suggested switching to another brand or comfort. I tried aptamil comfort and it helped initially but then he went back to how he was. Also suffered with reflux too (where we ended up in a&e). I finally switched to hipp organic and the difference was like day and night. Made such a difference. He still had reflux but was pooing regularly and much less windy.

be careful of treating reflux. GPs want to prescribe infant gaviscon which constipates. We ended up on omeprazole.

All the formulas have to be nutritionally the same, so we just used the cheapest one (Aldi)

My incredibly refluxy DD did best on Kendamil. She still threw up all day every day but it didn’t seem to bother her as much and (TMI!) it smelt the least awful when it reappeared 😂

I drove myself mad trying everything under the sun and I regret the time I spent worrying and fixating over it - it wasn’t CMPA or any kind of allergy, it was just developmental. It all improved when she could sit up, and disappeared entirely when she was 7 months. She’s 3.5 now and I can count on one hand the number of times she’s been sick since that day when it dawned on me that it was lunchtime and neither of us had changed our clothes 😂 no constipation or wind either. She just needed time for everything to develop a bit more ❤️ not saying your little one doesn’t have allergies, just saying that there isn’t always a “cause” if you see what I mean. Good luck, I remember how hard it is - I can’t have any more DCs but even if I could I wouldn’t because I couldn’t go through it all a second time!
