Baby porridge and baby rice with prescription formula

Hi there. My 6mo has cmpa and is ebf. I’ve been trying to combo feed using prescription formula but not had much luck until this week she started taking 30ml some days. I have started her on solids and wondered if I can make up baby rice and baby porridge with nutramigen puramino? Have any of you done this? Does it work well and did your LOs take to it? I am not able to express as I’m feeding often and have a toddler too and I just thought using the prescription formula will help her take in some nutrients as it goes to waste anyway after a month of being opened. Thanks in advance.

I think that formula tastes absolutely vile. It certainly looks it. That maybe why she doesn’t drink much of it.

I’ve been in the same position as you and to be honest i just side stepped porridge and none of my children ever had it as a first food. It just seemed the easiest option all round to just not. Mashed banana was the first sort of breakfast. Mashed sweet potato for dinner. Basically any mashed down fruit or veg that you can get down to a pulp. I sometimes mixed the formula in with the banana, but only if I wanted to get more formula in to them (*Edit to add)or if you wanted to get the consistency more liquid-y

Maybe don’t drink it then.

Thank you @LilacPony yes I have been giving her mushy everything this last week. I just thought maybe baby rice and porridge will help her be full and put ok weight as she is very diddy! I noticed she is sleeping a bit better at night with fewer wakes now she’s started solids so I want to add bulk too.

Yes we did this. We tried to combi feed but she wasn't keen and had a bottle aversions but we used it in food especially in breakfast. It helped when I had to stop breastfeeding at 10 months and she was used to the taste and it was only the bottle aversion we had to over come.

Give regular Weetabix made with it baby rice and porridge taste awful and if the formula isn't very nice she way not eat. You could also do regular porridge with some mashed up fruit added

Thank you so much @Superscientistand@Whyjustwhy83thats so helpful

You don’t need baby porridge or baby rice, mostly low nutrient stodge. Just give them normal food (appropriately prepared)

I tried baby rice for DD1 but it looks and tastes like wallpaper paste so didn’t bother for DD2.
As others have said give fruit and vegetables instead.
You can definitely make porridge with formula or breastmilk but from 6 months you can just use regular milk (so for your baby maybe oat milk?), as long as it’s not given as their main source of milk it’s fine to use a little to mix in with their food.

I've got a CMPA baby here. For porridge and weetabix I just used veggie milk (Ripple Kids, not sure if it is available in the UK).

My CMPA baby never took to the vile formula. And tbf, it's so thin it usually causes reflux, which you then need to medicate, and then that causes constipation, which you medicate as well. I gave up quite quickly, the cure seemed worse than just BF. I

Well aren't you helpful.

Yes we did this and used banana and whetabix to remove some of the milky horror.
Our paed specialist recommended a drop of vanilla to help with the milk. We found it did wonders.

Sttongly recommend training baby to like avocado early Its good on its own, on toast and combined with pesto on pasta.
Super easy way to get the cals in with your baby like mine was all bones and energy...

In terms of alternate milks koko kids was the best we found as the soy ones were a big no ... just total refusal on them all...

Thank you so much @SalmonOnFinnCrisp! Yes she likes the formula with vanilla essence and will drink 50ml some days now thank god after 5 months of bottle refusal! Good shout re: avocado.
