Sharing best advice for engorgement after birth

I feel compelled to share the best advice I got for engorgement after having my second baby because there is so much conflicting advice and dealing with engorged breasts took over my life for a bit after my first birth when I was supposed to be resting!

The advice is - DO NOTHING! Feed baby frequently but do not even touch your boobs between feeds. No massage, no warm compresses etc. and definitely no pumping! Plus cool cabbage leaves for relief. Omg the difference was incredible. Engorgement soon passed and I got to rest rather than constantly try to do something about the engorged breasts. Trust that it will resolve itself. Massage, pumping etc. only stimulates the breasts to make more milk which makes things worse.

Advice from a brilliant breastfeeding expert on a hospital ward. I was so grateful and was keen to share!

I cooked my cabbage leaves with the heat 😂

I was also told peppermint tea by the midwives. Don’t know if it helped but certainly didn’t do any harm!

And the real shortcut…. Couple of doses of Sudafed!
