Instagram accounts for weaning

Hello 😊
My baby is soon turning 6 months old and I'm starting to collect and prepare things for when he can start trying solids. Can anyone recommend some good instagram accounts or any other resources that can help me learn more about weaning, baby led weaning etc?
I'm a first time parent and would love to hear your advice and recommendations!

Don’t know anything about Weaning and Insta but this guide might be useful as it gives sample menus and advice on portion sizes, which I found very hard to find any decent information on when I was weaning mine.

Also a FTM of a not quite 6 month old so probably equally in the dark, but I’ve started following Charlotte Stirling Reed who is a children’s nutritionist, and Annabel Karmel who is apparently like Nigella for babies. I also listened to an episode of a podcast Charlotte SR did with a doctor, it was the doctor’s kitchen podcast and it was called something like weaning/fussy eaters, I’ll try and find the link for you. That was really informative. She’s also written a book several people have recommended which I’ve ordered but not read yet, apparently that has a plan for the first 30 days of solids that you can follow. Another book people have recommended to me is “What Mummy Makes” which is recipes. People have also recommended the Solid Starts app but I’ve not looked into that one yet!

The Weaning GP is marvellous and also has a book coming out in September which I’ve preordered. I also love Zachariah Eats as well!

Thank you so much! @BunnyRuddington @Frankincense88 @WrittenThatWay These are such a great start 😊

This is the link to the podcast, not sure if it’ll work if you don’t use the apple podcast app but it’s called Doctors Kitchen episode 287 - Weaning, Fussy Eaters, and How to Foster Healthy Eating Habits in Children

This was both my boys' favourite when they were weaning!

Cheesy Lentil Savoury

4 tbsp red lentils (60ml)
1 little onion, peeled and finely chopped
2 carrots, peeled and finely chopped
350ml water
black pepper
50g cheddar cheese, finely grated

Put the lentils and chopped vegetables into a pan and pour in the water. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until the vegetables are soft and the lentils fairly mushy. Purée as necessary, then stir in the grated cheese. This makes about 6 portions.

Charlotte Stirling-Reed (SR_Nutrition) is brilliant and her books are worth buying too. Also RebeccaWilsonFood who wrote a fab book called What Mummy Makes, which is great for meals that everyone can eat when baby is a bit bigger.

Also make sure you download the Solid Starts app, which shows you the age appropriate ways to serve all different types of food and different weaning stages.

Borgonzola · 29/08/2025 21:47

Solid Starts.

Eleph42 · 29/08/2025 21:49

How to wean your baby book by Charlotte sterling reed is great x

EvolvedAlready · 30/08/2025 05:52

Nanny Louenna, her app is phenomenal. I still refer to it often 4 years on

EnchantedToMeetYou2 · 30/08/2025 05:57

I agree with others -

  • Charlotte Stirling-Reed at SR_Nutrition
  • Solid Starts App for knowing how to cut different things for different ages
  • Anabel Karmel & Rebecca Wilson (What Mummy Makes) for recipe ideas
  • Dietician Lottie on Instagram was very useful too! ☺️

Also to add - don’t let it be a stressful thing 😊 There seems to be this huge pressure now on spoon feeding vs BLW etc. It’s absolutely fine to do a bit of both and just do what works best for your child 😊
I would recommend the whole “start with veg rather than fruit” idea as I genuinely think that does make a difference (at least within the mums I know anyway 😊)

PineconesandConkers · 30/08/2025 13:18

Thank you! I've got the Solid Starts app and have ordered the What Mummy Makes and How To Wean Your Baby books. I'm following everyone that's been recommend here too! Hopefully I can get my head round it a bit more during this next month or so 😁

I've found it on Spotify, thank you so much. I'll listen to it sometime over the weekend 😊
