Can stopping breastfeeding mess with your periods?

hi everyone

I've recently given up BF, with the exception of giving DD a BF first thing in the morning. Anyway, i'm sure i should have had a period by now as even during BF i was regular as clockwork (just my luck!!). just wondered if the hormone changes would affect my periods for a bit. Oh and yes, we are using contraception!

What contraception are you using? It may be that which is messing with your periods.

My cycle is still unpredictable 22 months later, in the last few months it has started to come more regular, but not the 11:30pm on the fourth Sunday regular it was before. I normally only do the morning feed but she will ask for others sometimes.

My period came back when DD was 21 weeks (she's now 26 weeks) - it hasn't come again. Is it likely to be irregular during bf?

RG - consider it a nice break for now!!!

Sorry, i should have been more specific! Whilst breastfeeding my periods have been REGULAR as clockwork. But i've recently STOPPED breastfeeding and now my period seems to be either late or missing! Contraception-wise we are using condoms.

ChocolateHobNob, most likely your periods will do their own thing. I haven't had a proper cycle now for 3 years!

RG, it could be the BF that is causing it but it may be worth speaking to your GP as you have gone from regular to not so regular.

Panic over! Period arrived this morning so now i have made sure i've written it down so that i know exactly when i'm due next time lol.
