Tongue tie and high palate

So my baby has been a nightmare with feeding since birth. Ended up in Neo natal when she around 5 days old due to her losing so much weight!

was doing my best to EBF, but was always using top ups with express milk and it’s been really hard. Had infant feeding team out and HV, was only through my own googling I thought what about tongue tie!!

went private and got it assessed, she has tongue tie, which is hidden well. And also high palate. It was snipped and she was put on my boob, she took it well but was v sleepy. I had hope leaving the apt!

got home and feeding is still pretty bad, I spent hours and hours at it yesterday. I hate feeding her, I get so anxious… we are currently 2 days post snip and I wouldn’t say things are better and still having to use express bottles.

im thinking of giving up, but I just want to hear others experiences x

So sorry youve had such troubles. DD2 was the same and I had a thread about it at the time. The TT person should have told you that it can take a couple of weeks to really improve and that the day after the division can be the worst day (I guess because it's sore for them). When is your follow up? Id try and keep persevering until then if you can.

Have they put you in touch with an IBCLC? Working with one after a TT division can also help because baby needs to relearn how to feed. You can look for a local person here- https://lcgb.org/find-an-ibclc-map/#!directory/map/ord=rnd or there are lots online that do virtual assessments. I follow Lucywebberfeedingsupport_ibclc on insta and I like her posts a lot.

We were unlucky and DD2 took a while to improve after her division. In the end, our HV got us a referral to a specialist SALT feeding team who were able to give us some advice and help us find a bottle that worked better (I was also bf + top ups to stop the weight loss). They also got us a paeds referral to check if there was another reason for our issues. As it was, she just needed time and her reflux sorting, which was also causing issues.
