Has anyone else put weight on and is breast feeding?

My DD is 6mo and I'm BF. I haven't lost any weight since she was born, in fact I'm sure I've put it on but am too scared to get on the scales. The last time I checked I was nearly 2.5 stone heavier than before I was pregnant.

I was always underweight until I got pregnant. Friends used to say things like 'oh you'll be back in your jeans in no time after you give birth', I think they are quite shocked when they see me now. I thought it would just fall off after DD arrived, I feel quite depressed about it really.

My boobs are huge now but not 2.5 stone!! Is this normal? Anyone else put on weight even though BF?

hi, i did, a year later and still cant get it off, when breastfeeding you mind tells you to eat more, plus i was always hungry. now that she is not fully breast fed, still eat too much, bdy got used to eating more and cant seem to shut down

I didn't lose any pre-pg weight when bf ( I was about 2 stone overweight when I got pg) until DS was 6 or 7 months - then it dropped off without me trying.
Starting to put it slowly back on now tho

me

have gone back to Slimming World though and have lost about 8lbs (in 3 weeks)

Some people lose weight through Breastfeeding and some don't IME. Those of us who don't have to work at it

I never lost weight breastfeeding either of my DSs. But I do lose it eventually.

I am now back to normal weight before the 2 pregnancies but never ever lost whilst breast feeding, I had an amazing amount of milk and it all went really well but did not lose weight til gave up the breast feeding.

Relax and enjoy the time as its short lived and then you can worry about the weight after x

I recommend Body pump, body combat for getting back into shape fast and even better than before pregnancies x

twinkley - I think it is a big myth that you lose weight BF - I didn't with my first and haven't with my 2nd. But like others it dropped off when i stopped BF my DD so am hoping for the same with my DS. If you were very slim before I am sure it will come off when your body stops being in BF mode - ie needing lots of energy to produce milk.

My DD is 12 months old and I'm still BF and I've not lost any weight either. Don't know why either because I'm not eating more because of the BF and I work full-time so don't have time to sit and snack all day. I'm actually getting a bit worried about the lack of weight loss

NappiesGalore · 12/05/2008 16:13

most of my weight fell off v soon after birth. i was bf (whether the two are connected, who knows? )
i havnt really shifted the last stone or so since the last baby. hes 2 now. but then, i did have 3 of them in 2 and a half years. [shrugs]

now i am torn between a desire to be fit and firm looking and my feminist belief that i dont give a shit. or maybe thats laziness talking... hmm... no, no its feminism. for sure. i am squidgy on principle [talks shit]

I lost 2 stone in 2 weeks when I'd first had her but ended up being very ill and with serious problems feeding her. I've put the weight back on now.

JulesJules · 12/05/2008 16:19

I didn't lose any weight first time round until I had stopped bf, DD1 was 2 and I was 5 months pg, so it didn't last long! I have just stopped feeding DD2, she is 3, so every morning I spring out of bed expecting to be back to a size 12 ...hasn't happened yet...

weasle · 12/05/2008 22:20

i put on loads of weight when bf ds1 who had poor wt gain. lost it all and more when i went back to work quite easily (cycled or ran to work). this time also bigger but of all the things to worry about, i'm trying to be relaxed about it and think i'll loose it eventually. to me, after problems last time, successful bf is more important than my figure for this short period of my life.

i still look at current photos and think 'who is that fat bird' though!

what i might loose bfing i gain being on maternity leave with its big lunches, afternoon teas, toddlers untouched meals etc...
