Feel like such an awful mum even posting this and admitting to this makes me feel horrible.
Suffered from ppd and bf and latch issues. So I have spent the past 4 months of my 4 month olds life eating so so much sweet stuff. Sometimes 7 or 8 chocolate bars a day, sometimes 2000 calories worth of chocolate and cake in a day just consistently :(
My family members have now told me that ive probably harmed my baby as baby would have had lots of sugar through my milk.
Feel like such a bad mum and Feel awful. What have I done. Maybe I should have kept to formula and not tried so hard with finally manging to establish ebf :(

Go easy on yourself, loads of BF mums eat a lot of sweet stuff. Especially in the first few months when we’re all knackered and trying to produce milk. Think my early milk was mainly made of chocolate hob nobs.

You are very unlikely to have done any harm. Your family members sound mean, are they anti BF / didn’t BF themselves by any chance? You’ve done brilliantly.

For your own sake sure you might want to ease off the sugar a bit but please don’t beat yourself up.

Your family is bonkers and have a deep misunderstanding of how breastmilk is produced. Your baby is fine. He did not get sugar from your milk.

Pretty much all breastfeeding mums eat lots of food because it makes us so hungry and sugar is the only way to stay awake through the horrendous nights.

You got this. Stay strong.

I agree, your family are the ones in the wrong. I really don't know who they think that you eating food to sustain you and your LO would damage them.

And they really have shown a quite staggering lack of knowledge on how BFing works.

Have a read of this on Kellymom. The article talks about how what you eat has very little affect on your BM Wink

Do you mix with any other BFing Mums? Like others have said I think that what you've eaten is fairly typical. If you want to make yourself feel better then maybe just add in a multivitamin & mineral tablet each day.

That is complete nonsense. It’s not how breast milk production works.

i mean for your own health that is a lot of chocolate not not one bit of it will have gone to your baby.

TinyMouseTheatre · 02/03/2025 17:31

Just for your own health, have you thought of trying dark chocolate. I make the switch when I was PG with DC2 as no matter how much milk chocolate I ate I still wanted more. Dark chocolate seems to stop that craving quite successfully Wink

Fuck me, your family sound like absolute bastards! Honestly, I can't get my head around more than one person ganging up on a breast feeding mother and spouting a load of shit.

It's not great for your own health that you are eating so much chocolate. But it sounds like you have a lot going on and how much chocolate you eat is quite minor compared to people who are supposed to be in your corner being so twatty.

Mulledjuice · 02/03/2025 17:50

Have any of these family members made you nutritious meals to keep you going...?

Meecrowahvey · 02/03/2025 17:51

Your family is stupid.
