I lost all respect for Kaye Adams and then it got worse!

Did anyone see The Wright Stuff, I think it was Tuesday?

They were talking about the bottle scare and Matthew said something about "breast is best" Kaye Adams gave him a FILTHY look and said "Don't even go there".

I wasn't happy about it. But, to be fair, I decided to Google her to see if she's spoken about problems she had. What did I find? She's an Ambassador for UNICEF UK!

Do UNICEF realise that their "Ambassador" goes on TV and makes comments like that?

I didn't see it, but I also get annoyed when people who have never breast fed make comments about it. I'm assuming Matthew has never had a child at his breast, lol!

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2008 10:30

I didn't see it, but was she implying that it is controversial rather than showing her views on bf?

mehdismummy · 09/05/2008 10:33

i did not even know who she was until i saw her face. She is that dried up old hag from that shit programme on itv where other dried up old hags discuss shit that nobody is interested in. That orange mutton dressed as lamb bint who is only famous because she is a cabaret singer from a boat is on it too! I am gonna take my toddler on there and bf in front of her! See if she gives me a look! How are you dc btw?

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2008 10:33

I'm sure I've heard her talk before on what a struggle she found bf.. Does that mean she can't be an ambassador for UNICEF then?

Or maybe she is a big believer in 'breastfeeding is normal not best' there was an interesting Mumsnet thread about the problems of prmotting 'breast is best'

mehdismummy · 09/05/2008 10:40

hi babies how is babychair? Still feeding?

CrackerOfNuts · 09/05/2008 10:42

Perhaps she is sick of listening to people go on and on about breast feeding, like any alternative to it is like shoving poisen down your childs throat.

mehdismummy · 09/05/2008 10:44

well then perhaps she should hide her reaction better then considering she was on tv and an alleged spokesman

BabiesEverywhere · 09/05/2008 10:45

mehdismummy, Yep, she is still nursing 2/3 times a day. So it looks likely that we will be tandem feeding in August

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2008 10:48

lol mehdismummy - say what you really think

mehdismummy · 09/05/2008 10:49

oh well done you. My ds is feeding whenever he wants at the moment! Got an excellent book off amazon called mothering your nursing toddler. Shall i pass it on?

BabiesEverywhere · 09/05/2008 10:55

Great minds and all that I have that very book on my sofa, written by Norma Jane Bumgarner ?

TinkerbellesMum · 09/05/2008 10:56

PuppyMonkey, that's why I wanted to look her up, I can appreciate that she might have had problems and FF doesn't mean she can't be an ambassador for UNICEF IMO but it's hardly acting as an ambassador to react like that.

I'm all for breast is normal, there are a couple of really good articles I've read lately that talk about it. But if you've got a few seconds to comment you don't throw filthy looks and say "don't go there" or you just say "No, it's normal" (well, I would )

Even if she has had problems, the fact she tried probably means she knows "breast is best" so she shouldn't be knocking it and just because it was hard for her doesn't mean she should make it a problem for everyone else.

"well then perhaps she should hide her reaction better then considering she was on tv and an alleged spokesman"

Agreed.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2008 11:00

TinkerbellesMum · 09/05/2008 11:05

I'm even more confused now! The look on her face wasn't one who was happy with the idea.

Puppy that made me laugh out loud, I had ds in Raigmore and it had just got it's baby friendly status and they were sooo useless I actually emailed UNICEF to tell them.
Since then things have never improved for any mothers I know that have gone in to have their babies. Sorry totally OT I know but Raigmores attitude to bf and the support they offer is awful made me grin in an ironic way when I read that.

mehdismummy · 09/05/2008 11:08

so why the dirty look then? If she is such a believer in bf? Yes babies it is by norma!

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2008 11:09

yes, good question.
Or maybe that's just her normal face....

WigWamBam · 09/05/2008 11:10

I have heard her speak very positively about breast-feeding before.

Maybe she wanted to divert the conversation away from becoming a breast v formula debate rather than a discussion about nasties in plastic bottles?

DoubleBluff · 09/05/2008 11:13

YAwnnnnnnnnn

mumoftwo37 · 09/05/2008 11:13

Kaye Adams did breastfeed her first daughter- she used to talk about it a lot on LOsse Women. She had problems feeding her second daughter and I read an article on her that said she expressed milk and fed her this from a bottle. Maybe this enables her to be empathetic with those mums who can't feed their babies.

mehdismummy · 09/05/2008 11:15

love your name wigwam makes me wanna do the dance! Perhaps she just a sour faced bint then!

TinkerbellesMum · 09/05/2008 11:35

I do appreciate that she had it hard, but the way she came across on the show just wasn't very positive about breastfeeding, it wasn't necessary. Matthew wasn't even saying it as a statement, he was just talking about the bottle thing and said it in with other things IYSWIM. I just don't think it was necessary, especially with her role.

Don't get me wrong I know it's not for every mother, but I don't think someone who is a position like that should be expressing her feelings that way.
