Hello, I had about 2 and half glasses of wine I worked out I shouldnt feed my baby until 1am however I have just woken up at half 12 and realised after I had fallen asleep (around 12)I had woken and fed him. Will my baby be affected by this? How can I make sure his OK? I feel absolutely horrible and am very worried

Honestly, it's fine. Baby will be fine. Don't overthink it.

cheerfulaf · 02/02/2025 00:48

The amount of alcohol in your breast milk will be so little baby will be fine. 2 glasses of wine really isn’t a huge amount so don’t panic. Obviously if this was a habit it’d be different but a one off won’t cause any harm ☺️

kiana2015 · 02/02/2025 00:49

Baby will be fine, it's said if you're able to hold your baby, you can feed them.

Pickandmixusername · 02/02/2025 00:49

It's fine

Oneflewovermycarsbed · 02/02/2025 00:51

I am a very relaxed person where babies are concerned but you shouldn’t be drinking alcohol whilst feeding!!

BearyNiceEars · 02/02/2025 00:53

Baby will be fine OP, don’t give yourself a hard time about it as sounds like it is a one-off.

Rose459Beach · 02/02/2025 00:54

He'll be totally fine. The amount will be tiny. Don't do it every single night.

LividBlah · 02/02/2025 00:55

My sister is a lactation consultant.

if you are safe to hold the baby, you are safe to feed the baby.

WinterSun20 · 02/02/2025 01:00

Do not worry! The amount of alcohol in your milk will be minute. Honestly the biggest issue of drinking and feeding is NOT the alcohol transferred in breastmilk (because it's tiny) it's only related to how capable you are to look after a baby. You didn't drink enough to compromise that, so don't worry.

Sopmum · 02/02/2025 01:05

Thankyou all so much! I rarely drink at all and just wanted a nice night with partner. I was so worried when I realised but most of you saying he'll be fine has helped alot

Well I suppose there's always a danger you could drop your glass, true!

TinyMouseTheatre · 02/02/2025 08:43

Worse still you could spill some over your breasts. Next thing you know baby had got a taste for the wine and is demanding to share the bottle with you! Grin

You don't sound very relaxed at all tbh

MumChp · 02/02/2025 08:47

No harm done.

That'd just be rude!

IdaGlossop · 02/02/2025 13:55

Echoing what others say, there is only a minute transfer of alcohol to the breast milk. Nothing to worry about at all!

BC2603 · 02/02/2025 14:29

Someone once described the dilution as a shot glass in a swimming pool for how alcohol dilutes in breast milk so you’ll be fine ☺️

Frankiedear · 02/02/2025 14:33

Absolutely fine, as they say if you can hold your baby, it's fine, alcohol while breastfeeding is completely different to drinking while pregnant. I breastfed for over 3 years, I definetly drank in this period.

Bristolinfeb · 02/02/2025 14:37

The amount of alcohol in your bm would be similiar to the amount in orange juice. It’s fine.

Oh really!!

biscuitcat · 02/02/2025 14:38

Just to echo everyone else - nothing at all to worry about! The concentration of alcohol in breastmilk is about the same as in your blood, so you could be over the drink drive limit and your milk is still only about as alcoholic as orange juice. So long as you're not cosleeping and are safe to look after baby, drinking and breastfeeding are fine together.

Okdaisy · 02/02/2025 14:44

It's absolutely fine. Hope you enjoyed having a few drinks!

BedBathAndBeyonce · 02/02/2025 14:48

OP it’s fine. Enjoy your baby, your life, and feeding. Flowers

MaltipooMama · 02/02/2025 14:53

It's absolutely fine! Hope you enjoyed a lovely night and couple of drinks🍷
