Right this has been going on for a while now.
I had what i thought was a milk blister which i squeezed but nothing came out. This was followed by niple and inner breast pain intermittantly.
I was told to use cream i had been given from my gp for my daughter who had an external thrush infection.
I have had this white spot ever since and told by gp to continue with cream last night i tried using a sterilised needle to pop it, however tonight i have lumps in the side of that breast which are quite painful but the nipple and inner breast pain has gone.
I have tried feeding dd laying down but that doesn't seem to have worked.
What can i do ?

feed so babies bottom lip is over that area? i had probs with lumps but caught it earlier so may be easier at an earlier stage. once had to feed lying down with dds feet above my head, worked though!

lilyloo · 29/04/2008 21:09

didn't try it that way ld thanks will try that

sounds like blocked duct, littleducks is right feed with baby's chin facing the lump. also comb (with a wide toothed comb) down breast across lump towards nipple in shower or bath, lots of hot water and massage will help.

how long is a while? a few days?

whomovedmychocolate · 29/04/2008 21:11

Okay, so to recap you have several lumps, one of which you've gone into with a needle (eek) and your boobs are painful.

Is it red or hot at all? It sounds like you might have the start of mastitis. You need to go back to the docs because you probably need antibiotics.

You can still feed, don't worry.

I got mastitis when DD was about two months old, you may find you get flu-like symptoms and generally feel like crap.

Tis definitely worth going back to the GP though.

tearinghairout · 29/04/2008 21:15

Defo keep at it with the feeding. I got the start of mastitis for a couple of days but my ds eventually cleared the blockage (he was a strong sucker!) Was painful & quite scary while it lasted. Good luck.

lilyloo · 29/04/2008 21:20

the lumps only appeared tonight !
The blister / white spot on my nipple has been there for several weeks (that's what i tried to squeeze/needle) thinking it was blockage but the pain i had before i used the needle has gone and now been replaced with these lumps so am sure it's blockage somewhere just need to clear it!

Describe the white spot? Is it a blister, or is it like a teeny tiny blackhead (but white, obv) stuck in a nipple pore?

lilyloo · 30/04/2008 06:31

more like a blackhead although this am it looks much better than it has done and is almost flat and has faded. My nipple is no longer sore but these lumps are !
I have fed ddin rugby hold that side all night but they seem no better , the lumps are to the back of the breast near my arm pit any more suggestions ladies , please !

lily, message for you on jan thread... Dx

lilyloo · 30/04/2008 10:17

I have put warm wheat bag on it which has eased it slightly but now have red marks , please tell me this is due to warm compress as they weren't there before i put it on.
Have made docs apt for 12.30.

It's good that you see the GP to rule out mastitis. I have lumps frequently (DS now 5 months) and what works for me best is feeding him after a hot shower/hot compress on all fours while he is on his back. Good luck.

lilyloo · 30/04/2008 10:56

Am just waiting for dd to wake and will try that thanks Glimmer!

have just done tha Glimmer and it seems much easier already and the lump is smaller, would you still go to the docs or just carry on doing that ?

Saw gp who didn't seem that bothered , looked at it under a lamp said it wasn't mastitis and to use paracetamol for the pain Got more advice on here!

Hi Lily -- glad you got some relief! Sorry that visit to the GP was so unhelpful. I had several episodes of this and was able to resolve each of them without seeing a GP. Hot compresses plus feeding on all fours did do the trick for me. I sometimes massage the breast towards the nipple while I feed (now - in the position above, this becomes quite acrobatic...) It is actually the only case when we turn the "demand" feeding around and I ask DS to feed when I need it . If it is really bad I get red blotches on the skin, which is I believe one symptom of mastitis. So, I would say closely monitor how you are and if you feel bad go back to the GP. I hope you can get by without as has worked for me.

glimmer · 30/04/2008 14:58

Sorry, my post was a bit rambling. Also, I have no medical training.

lilyloo · 30/04/2008 16:18

that's really helpful Glimmer i (fingers crossed) think it may be working for me to thanks.
P.S without any medical training you much more helpful than the doc!
