Baby with snuffly nose - any advice?

My ds (10wks) has a cold. He is not hot to the touch but is subdued, sleepy, keeps rubbung his face against me (as if he has an itchy nose) and is VERY snuffly esp when bf. He is getting very cross with bf and keeps popping on and off the breast and tiring himself out. Poor little mite.

I'm expressing what I can (have low supply issues and also previous mastitis so this is essential) but have never been able to produce much for the pump (even an electric one). Watching nappies carefully and will give formula if necessary (as well as ebm) to keep fluids up.

Any advice?? What can I do to make him feel better and less blocked up? eg Could I drink strong coffee then bf???

My DS was a November baby and seemed to be snuffly all winter (and the following ones!) I used to stick a pot of Snuffle Babe as close to his nose as poss when bf - its a bit like baby Vicks. Seemed to help a bit.

When my dd got snuffly at the same kind of age the GP recommended squirting a saline drop or two up each nose. You can get a tiny bottle of saline from the chemist (best to go to an independent as Boots will try to sell you the more expensive Otrivine stuff) - explain it's for a baby's nose, not contact lenses!

Though your baby might be a bit disconcerted at first (ie, cry...) it does help bring the gunk out. Be prepared with a tissue/wipe...
