How long until your period returned?

I'm planning to stop breastfeeding. My daughter is one now and I'll be honestly the last few weeks my mood has been really flat and just haven't felt myself. She is still feeding quite often and just using me for comfort, I've not had a period now in nearly 2 years. How long after breastfeeding did it take for yours to return?

My period came back when I was down to 2 breastfeeds a day, which was around 9 months old.

I wish I could get it down to 2 feeds a day. Some days it's still 10 and constant through the night. I'm really struggling with it now /

About 5 months, but by then each of them were eating 3 meals a day plus the feeds. I probably only had about 3/4 feeds per day.

My 1 year old is having 3 meals per day. It she is still constantly on boob and I'm struggling mentally with it all reason why I want to stop. I thought it would return by now but nothing. I actually want a period to see if it will help with my mood.

OP, I think you're going to have to help your DC to self sooth with something other than your boob. It wouldn't surprise me if your low mood is not related to periods, but your lack of time alone/lack of sleep. xx

Mine came back when DD2 weaned at 6 months. She still fed in the morning, at nighttime and for comfort if she was ill or sore. So at least twice a day until she stopped at 15 months. I was literally raging that my period came back so quickly as I suffer from PMDD and so had a mirena coil fitted.

I fell pregnant when dd1 was 9mo and still bf, without having a period....!

I just really don't feel like myself at the moment. She's mg third and it's all become so time consuming I don't get a break. People say they only feed their babies moon twice a day but she's literally on me about 10 times a day. I'm struggling to lose weight which is getting me down also. I just want to feel semi normal.

With my first BF baby, period returned when she was 18m, my second BF when he was 20m, this one, I had a false start at 10m (returned to work) then it re started when she was 22m. Loved not having a period. Breastfed them all through toddlerhood, still breastfeeding. It does sound like you are 'touched out'. So lots of distractions/walk out and about, love the 'thousand kisses' way rather than a BF, distract then do something else to stretch those feeds gently.

I BF in evening, most of the night too but don't mind as I miss her while at work. I understand being totally tired out though x

Mine came back just before my 6 week check up when DC was ebf.

coco111 · 04/11/2024 10:34

I gave in during the night and gave her some because she was screaming and I have two other kids who I didn't want to wake. This morning have been offering lots of water and it's definitely seems a lot easier and doable during the day time. Has anybody got any tips on weaning at night time and how long did it take?

For night wakes I got DH to take over, there were protests, but it worked, slowly.

Depending on level of understanding you could say you only feed in a specific location (which isn't nearby at night) and explain milk is for when the sun is up (harder during winter though!).

Tattletail · 06/11/2024 20:34

When my eldest was 16 months I'd had enough. She was similar in the sense of very attached to BF, fed at night still. Went cold turkey, stopped all day and night feeds, I was very worried about how she would take it. The first day was a bit rough but after that she was fine! Like it never existed.

I would say my period returned within 6 weeks of stopping. Was a bit hap hazard for a while though.

My periods returned within weeks but I fed until three each time. However in my peer group most people found their periods returned by 18 months regardless of whether they were still feeding.

PolaroidPrincess · 06/11/2024 23:12

Periods came back before I'd stopped BFing so I can't help you with that one sorry.

Can offer some advice on reducing them before you stop if you'd like? Wink

Wonderlust233 · 06/11/2024 23:14

My period returned about 8 weeks postpartum... I exclusively breastfed til 2yo both times. It really varies amongst women.
