Did anyone get achey pains for a long time, in the run up to period returning (whilst still breast feeding)

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help?
I am BF my 9 month old DS, and for the last month or so have felt very achy and crampy, as if my period is returning. This feeling is getting stronger, and it happens every day, although usually in the evenings. DD is on 3 meals a day, and 4 breast feeds a day.
I am wondering whether it is normal to have these sorts of pains as my body starts to think about ovulating etc again, or whether there is anything to be concerned about? I am getting frustrated thinking AF is coming, but then nothing.
Did anyone else get these symptoms in the lead up to return of AF and how long was it before AF returned?
Thanks

Oh well - maybe I've just got bad wind or something.

Poor you! Doesn't sound much fun.

Not sure if I have any answers but it doesn't sound normal. My period returned around 3 months. I was still BF but my DS slept through from 6 weeks so I wasn't feeding him much during the night. (Unfortunately his sleeping pattern went to pot around 5 months!). Didn't have any abnormal cramps at all from what I remember.

To be on the safe side, I'd pop to your GP for an internal or smear test. Might be something and nothing but best to get it checked out, especially if you're uncomfortable. Incidentally, are you having back pain too?

Let me know how you get on.

xx

I'm having the same type of thing, my DS is 11 months and on 2 or 3 bf's a day with an occasional night time one. My periods haven't get returned either. I've had this type of pain for months now and it got so bad last week that I booked a Dr's appointment. I then chickened out and cancelled it as it subsided. I suppose I really should ring and book one again as it hasn't gone away. Sorry that's not much actual help is it!

I had all sorts of weird pains, etc for a good couple of months before my periods finally restarted. I also had odd bits of (TMI alert!) bloody mucus that seemed to be it starting then nothing.

I panicked and went to the GP at that point who did lots of swabs to be on the safe side but everything was clear and she put it down to the bfing. DS2 was having anywhere between 4-8 bfs a day, including at least 2 at night.

DS2 was 13mo before it came back - I think it took until he was down to 3 or so feeds a day.

Just to warn youthough, when it did finally arrive it was SO heavy. Only the very first one, the subsequent ones have been normal.

If you're worried it might be worth a trip to the GP.

(Are you using contraception? Is there any chance you could be pg again and the aches are early pg symptoms?)

Thanks Chelsea and Hairy. I was thinking of booking a Dr's appointment, so perhaps I will now. I just keep thinking, maybe period will be here tomorrow, but it never is. Sorry you feeling like this too Hairy. Weird isn't it!

Hi Olihan, thanks for advice. You have hit the nail on the head - not using contraception (active decision!) and not sure if pains are normal sign of period returning or possible sign of pgc? Guess it could be either really then!
