Baby’s position when feeding during co-sleeping - flat on back or on their side?

I know the baby has to lie down flat to sleep, but what happens at feeding time? Do they stay flat but you turn their head to you? Or do you scoop them up so you’re both chest to chest?

My worry is that sometimes I nod off while feeding so if they are on their side then that wouldn’t be good.

How does everyone else work it?

I used to start a feed almost chest to chest so they had their “spine in line”. I think they’d be slightly angled away from me so gravity would pull them onto their backs not fronts if that makes sense. When they were newborn I’d slowly lower them back down to back sleeping after, as they got older and more mobile they’d naturally go back to mostly on their backs themselves. I didn’t tend to fall asleep when they were actively feeding but when comfort sucking at the very end so we probably had some dodgy latches with them still attached, on their backs, but it worked well enough.

Thank you, that makes sense and is helpful! I’ll try the spine in line tonight 😊
