Ds3 is my 6th baby.
He is a dinky thing, but was born way up high centile wise ad has steadily dropped over the ;last year. He has never been much interested in solids. He will snack here and there and I am always offering him food.
Now he has taken to rejecting all forms of sold food, he will take a bottle during the day but mostly wants to suck from me ( big cow emoticon).
The health visitor is due next week to do his 1 year check, She is really nice but I'm dreading I as I know that he will have pretty well dropped off the chart weight wise.
he just doesn't want to know . he'll have the odd bit of toast etc, but is not interested.
He also has no teeth yet, could this be linked?

Anyways what I wanted to know was is there anyone else out there with a skinny thing of a baby who only wants boob? None of my others have been like this?
Advice needed prior to HV visit, ta.

kitty. You could always embellish a little if you are confident he is fine...

me - was hoping DS would eat more food now I've gone back to work. 4 days now and no real improvement (tho he has been ill).
When I'm here he feeds every 2 or 3 hours, and also has upped his night feeds. He's put on about 2oz in the last 2 months

That said he's growing (lengthways), active, happy, developing normally (I think)...

My dd ate basically nothing until she was 11 months, when I started witholding the breast, and eventually she started to eat some solids. She still (now 2.2) likes to breastfeed several times a day, but eats well too most days. She was never a skinny thing, though did go a period of about 5 months without gaining anything (she was very active and an early physical developer).

Thanks guys, I wanted to know that I wasn't the only one out there.
He actually had a bit of toast this morning, the first piece of 'food' for over 4 days!!

I had a similar problem my DD is now 17 months old. She didn't seem to get the hang of solids until about 13 months and even then she is very limited in the food she likes - she hates sauces or mixed up foods. It is dispiriting to see other mothers "shovel" in loads of food to their babies and to have a child that shows complete disinterest.

Things that worked for us

  • no BF directly before meal if possible - eat with the child ideally the same thing, I tend to have two lunches as a result just give yourself a very small portion
  • keep in cheerful, I find music helps and make it a bit of a game, a small toy to distract him
  • meal & snack times at set times so he gets used to expecing meal times
  • rely on snacks, get him used to eating foods, leave on a small table raisins, homemade popcorn etc... My theory is that babies that are used to being BF on demand often like small quantities of food very regularly

Good luck it is frustrating and it can feel very lonely.

Thanks Tapster, yes t can be. The next child up from him, now 2.3 is the absolute opposite. The pair of them are like Jack Sprat and his wife
