8 week old still only feeding 10 minutes on one side - is this ok?

I am breastfeeding my 8 week old baby and it is generally going ok, my only worry is that he only feeds about 10 minutes on one side every 3 hours - is this enough? His weight has been fine up to his 6 week check up but now as he isn't getting weighed weekly and as he is getting bigger I worry that he should maybe need more? He will sometimes take more if I keep offering but then seems to be more sick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you're doing fine, if he comes off one side and then you offer the other, it's then up to him whether he wants it or not. You're doing the right things. He will let you know when he wants both sides (if he gets fussier than normal?)

I would suggest always offering, but assuming he won't want it until he's ready.

10 minute feeds are not unusual: he could just be an efficient feeder and you could have a fast letdown.

If you're still worried, talking it through with a BF counsellor on one of the helplines might reassure you?

I would say its fine. my dd is 5mths and rarely takes both sides and has always been a 10min feeder! If hes having plenty of wet and the odd dirty nappy and is putting on a bit of weight (growing out of clothes is best sign i think lol) then hes fine. you are doing a great job!! Its the one thing with bf is that that you must have faith in yourself that your body CAN do this.

Sounds good. What is his output like? How is his soft spot? Does he have bracelets? Is he maintaining his line? (I don't like charts but used as a guide to see if your LO is going too far away they're ok)

Thanks everyone for the advice. Yes, he has plenty of wet and dirty nappies and he is on the 50th centile of the growth charts and definitely growing out of all his clothes.
