BF 14 month old seems uninterested now and i'm sad

Over the past 7 days DS2 has seemed less and less interested in BF. He dropped his feeds to only 2 a day, first and last thing, at just past a year old.

He wriggles, squirms and shrieks now when I try to feed him and barely gives half a dozen sucks before he's done. He also doesn't seem very happy with our usual BF position any more, him lying across my lap, maybe there is something else I should try?

Obviously I don't want to feel like I'm forcing him, but I hate the thought that this is the end of BF for us, it feels too early and it's made me really sad today.

I understood that most children self-wean beyond the age of 2 and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to encourage him or I should just let it go and have him decide for himself.

Any tips or words of reassurance?

I'd let him decide for himself, I think, but I know it is very hard and feels very sad.
