Someone said something 'interesting' to me today which made me think
They said it wont be long until I start weaning (meaning 4 mths) I replied saying I will wean when ds2 is READY to be weaned, (didn't like her implications she also made about my breast milk either ) though my intention is to go with the guidelines of 6mths (though ds1 was ff and started weaning not long after 4 mths)

Most people in my experience I have met ffed and weaned around 4mths.. I wondered what those who have BF or mixed fed may have done?

I bf, and introduced solids at 6 months. He was a big baby, but perfectly happy with that.

22 months old now, and eats absoutley anything - we did blw, so there was no faff with pureeing things either.

When dd was born the recommendation was to start weaning at 4 months. So I did. Had a niggling doubt and a massive hope that she would sleep better if she had solids . Made not a jot of difference. She's a very good eater though.

With ds, the recommendations had changed and he was more settled so I had no reason to doubt that he could exist on my milk. Was 6months and straight to finger food. He is though a very fussy eater. Part of the reason for delay is that I had "done" weaning before, so it held no excitement for me.

Same as cmotdibbler, I bf'd DS1 and did blw from 6 months when he could sit up and start to grab bits of veg - he's now 2.4 and eats absolutely everything apart from egg (which has made his skin bad).

Will do the same with DS2 in about four months time and this time I won't get stressed when he doesn't eat much for a while. It did take DS1 a couple of months to get into it, but certainly by 9 months he was eating home-made lasagne with his hands!

I will remember that 'food is for fun until they're one'!

DS was excl bf & had his first solids blw-stle at 29 weeks but after a couple of weeks wasn't that bothered so I left it again for another few weeks. He didn't start eating more solids than milk until he was at least 18 months old. The idea that babies cannot survive on bm alone after 4 or 6 months is rubbish imo. I know someone irl whose baby had no solids at all until they were over 1 & even then didn't really eat very much at all. She gave her a mutli vitamin for her own piece of mind I think...but the baby was obviously thriving on the BM
