Baby not eating much or drinking when looked after by others

My baby is 8 months old and breastfed, eating 3 meals a day. She’s very good at eating solids when I feed her. Have been trying to get her to drink water at every meal but very hit and miss, when she does drink she has 2 sips at most. She won’t drink milk from a bottle or cup.

She started nursery this week and will eat a little bit of food but doesn’t drink anything and when my parents looked after her, she didn’t eat very much and again, didn’t drink anything. I was gone for 6 hours.
I know it might take time for her to get used to other people feeding her solids, but the fluid intake is worrying me. I know some breastfed babies will refuse to drink milk from a cup or bottle, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to encourage her to drink more water? Especially as the weather is getting warmer. I want to stop breastfeeding anyway but at the moment I don’t see any chance of it happening.

Have you tried different types of cups/bottles?

At 8 months old both my kids barely ate anything but were still breastfed often. I‘d try fruit like banana/ melon pieces (or whatever the baby really likes and a learner cup to get the baby through those 6 hours and then breastfeed before and after nursery until the baby gets more comfortable at nursery..

Don't worry too much about out the fluids, she will be having plenty from you before and after.

Your DPs could always try her with a homemade ice lolly Wink

So she's never been fed any meals by anyone except you? (I'm talking solids not breast milk before people lose their shit) why is that? Why has her dad never fed her a meal ?

My son refused drink at nursery at that age. My health visitor advised to look at it over a 24 hr period, he was plugged into me when at home and overnight and there will be some moisture in the food that is taken at nursery. The nursery were really good and his key worker spent time trying each bottle they had to see what he preferred and settled on a NUK one I wouldn't have considered!

Weird thing to hone in on. OP has said she's not worried about the solids, it's the fluid intake while she's away from her baby.

8 months is still quite young OP, I had a bottle refuser but once she got the hang of the sippy cup it was much easier. That wasn't until she was about 1 though if I remember correctly.

Could your parents try a Calpol syringe if they're getting worried?

@jobessieandme it's just weird

Her dad has fed her before but he leaves for work before she has breakfast and usually gets home during/just after dinner so it just doesn’t happen often.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. She had a better day today, still didn’t drink anything but ate a lot more.
We have tried different types of bottles but no luck. I’ll try the other suggestions on here. Nursery have been very good so far.

Both of mine would never take a bottle but were better with a cup.
