I have been feeding my 9 week old every two hours during the day. Is this too often? I have been told that she should feed every three hours at this stage. She is sleeping 4-5 hours at at a time during the night
Any advice gratefully received!

I am no expert, but even on formuls my lo fed every 2 hours till 12 weeks. It's good she's going longer at night.

as often as she asks!

absolutely no point making her wait if she hungry
simialrly there's little point forcing the boob on her if she's not

2h sounds about right to me

SOUnds like you are doing great at night time, I have got a 6 months old and a 4 year old and I have stuck to these feed times - it worked for me. We always started our day at 7am
7am - feed
9am nap (for 45 minutes)
10:30am feed
11:45 - small top up feed
12 - 2pm nap
2:20 feed
4:30 nap (30 minutes)
5:15 feed
5:45 bath
6:15 rest of feed
7:00pm bed
10:30 pm feed
If they got hungry before the 'right' time I would give them a dummy top delay them a little. If you are no-where near these times then it takes a little while to adjust, try doing 10 minutes every 3 days with the dummy if you need to
GOod luck

we are in no real feeding routine in day , i am happy to feed her when she likes, 11 weeks, but get 5 hours between feeds at night and imo that's when it counts.

2 hours sounds great for a 9 week old. I found that feeds started to space out naturally at around 4-5 months.

agree with mrs b just feed baby whenever baby wants it, do not worry about routines.
it will only stress you out.
its easaier to go with the flow

agree with the posts here - which idiot who told you she 'should' be feeding three hourly, thesoo???

Tommy · 08/04/2008 09:22

sleeping 4-5 hours at night sounds pretty good for 9 weeks!

At least the 2 hourly feeding gives you a good excuse to sit down and take it easy

blondiep14 · 08/04/2008 09:56

My 9 week old DS is still feeding every 2 hours in the day as well, and less at night.

I was also told he should be going longer by my HV. She also suggested I give him a bottle of formula when I said about him feeding constantly 8-10pm before bed and me being tired.

I've stuck to pure boob, I just wanted to hear he would grow out of it.

The last 2 nights he's slept from 10.45pm til 5am so I no longer care about the constant feeding before bed .

I never had aroutine with mine. Sometimes they would feed every hour or sometimes every 2-3 hours.

Just go with the flow lol, it's easier

EffiePerine · 08/04/2008 10:01

Every 2 hours sounds about right (and well done for getting 4-5 hours at night )
