ok i think time has come to get ds off the bottle

hes 27 months and its not just one or two bottles a day!its about 6!and it is now affecting his appetite.i need help!

Feeding cups...take him out and let him choose. Make a big fuss about big boy cups. Does he have a bottle to sleep with? Change drink to water but don't tell him. I did this with DD and obviously she realised but was happy to have a bottle of water than no bottle at all. To be honest she has one bottle of water a day for bed at night and I could take this away from her but water staying on her teeth all night isn't doing her any harm and I don't believe the bottle is doing the shape of her teeth any harm either...she only has it in her mouth for a few mins and doesn't have it at any other time. Not sure if this helps and not posting here for advice/comments on what I have done but best of luck!

thankyou-sounds like great advice.i really dont think he'll just accept it!but i will try that and maybe just try to keep us busy.so milk in cup and water in bottle?is that right?

Will watch this thread with interest because my DD (nearly 3) up until last week still had a bottle before bed. But I was sooo worried about her teeth - I have started giving her - her favourite mug with a straw (the only way she will drink anything - she's a real card!) But some nights she just wants the bottle which has surprised me because shes never been one to get attached to anything! And is so sparky - she can tell me quite eloquently why she prefers a bottle "because it helps her feel sleepy" (sorry for hijack!)

my DS1 was like that - he's just cut down now though (he's 6 )

We got him off the botle by giving him his morning milk in a beaker - i.e. when he would really want it and he moved over to a beaker no problem. The hard part was getting him off the beaker and onto a cup TBH

runningonplenty - I was worried about the teeth thing but the dentist has said tht DS1's teeth are perfect. I think all the milk helped them to be really strong!!

lol Tommy - yes DD teeth are lovely and white and straight but you hear so many horror stories about the bottle after a certain age don't you?

yes they are not allowed juice in a feeding cup, even if its diluted

he doesnt have juice anyway just milk or water-mainly milk!he did have apple juice on holiday and loved it but im not too keen to get him having it at home when milk and water are all hes normally offered.
i decided to wait till wednesday when the older children are off school so were not rushing round in the mornings giving him milk for an easier life.plus theyll keep him entertained when my energy runs out!

right kept putting it off but now no choice(well kind of)he bit hole in the last teat in the house and handed me a chunkso i chucked it in the bin saying it was broken and no more.he had bit of cry but was ok.hes got milk in a sippycup.and he went to bed amazingly well without it too!i was expecting long bedtime!i think itll be hard if/when he wakes in the night wanting it and in morning but we'll see!fingers crossed!i must be brave!
