8 week old reduced appetite

Hi all,

Ftm here and I am at my wits end. My lo is 8 weeks old and she has a reduced appetite for the past few days. Earlier last week she would scream and cry everytime I tried to feed her a bottle which ended up being diagnosed as thrush on Tuesday. She fed fine on Tuesday and Wednesday and she has started to reduced her feeds again since last night. She is otherwise a very alert, active baby, very happy and content when she is awake, plenty of wet diapers and a dirty diaper on an average each day.

For reference she would have anywhere between 90-120 mls per feed but since the last two feeds which have been spaced out at 3.5-4 hours intervals she's taken 30 mls and after that refuses to have anymore. Her tongue is miles better now and she isn't in pain because she doesn't cry when she leaves the bottle it just seems like she is full/doesn't want anymore. She weighed 5.6kgs on Tuesday when I took her to a and e due to lack of feeding. Can anyone please help and tell me why this is happening? I'm a super anxious mum and track all her feeds despite her gaining weight on her percentile I am afraid due to her reduced appetite/lack of feeds she will lose weight and I don't know what to do anymore. Any advice/insight is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried a faster teat? Perhaps she’s getting frustrated with the flow.

I changed her over to the stage 2 teats about 2 weeks ago and she has been feeding fine with it when she's in the mood to feed if that makes sense? Do you suggest moving onto the third stage teats? Wouldn't that be too much for a 8 week old?

What did they say when they weighed her?

They weren't at all concerned with her weight. Neither were they too fussed about her eating as well. The numbers I have been given by my midwife in terms of how much the lo should be having for her weight are considerably lower than what is generally suggested so that is something that's confused me as well. She has said after weighing and calculating it that lo should be feeding 70mls every 3 hours and 90mls if it's 4 hours..but this sounds quite low to me so I'm not too sure what to do anymore.
