The best slings for breast feeding?

I'm expecting no2 and remember the days of being chained to the sofa with DS1. I'm not too sure that he'd like that now!

I was thinking of getting a sling so I can feed and have hands free for DS.

Is it really possible to do this? Which would be the best sling?

I'm popping out for the rest of the day but I will look back this evening.

How about a Freedom ring sling?

I like the wrap slings like the tricot slein and a million others, really easy to adjust (once you've got your head round tying them!) Fed ds from newborn in it with no probs HTH

i used the baba sling for nursing constantly.. whilst out and about, shopping, chasing my toddler, playing in park, making dinner, eating dinner...

and i still constantly use it and she is 12months now. I absolutely love it.

I used a Huggababy with dd2. It was very good for bfing, though not completely hands-free because I often needed a supporting arm under her when moving about. Also easy to take the sling off when she fell asleeptand lay her down still asleep.

Slur: any tips for feeding comfortably in a kari me? I struggle with mine...

Also recommended is a Mai-Tai.

There's a huge amount of advice on the forums at The Babywearer, just search for breastfeeding. Most people find a ring sling or wrap-type sling (like the KariMe or Moby) easiest. The best way of finding out which is best for you is just to try lots of types out though!

Depending on your anatomy you may need to lower the sling and baby to reach your boobs (and if you're really huge like me you may find it easier to stick a rolled muslin under your boob to raise it up a bit, sorry if this is TMI!), and it may take a while to get the hang of.

It is definitely worth persevering though as it makes a huge difference to how mobile you can be, especially if you can master hands-free feeding.

thanks for that. I found an excellent video on the babywearer forums and DS is happily feeding as I type!

He has to be pretty low so it doesn't feel secure enough for me to walk round hands free but i can now go to the loo and get more water!
