Only BFing at night - is it still best to wear a nursing bra during the day?

8mo DS has completely lost interest in BFing during the day [sob!] so am only feeding him when he wakes at night (once or twice a night, usually.)

So what is best for my breasts and the night-time supply; keep wearing nursing bras 24 hours a day or can I go back to under-wired ones during the day and just change into nursing ones at night?

Anyone know? TIA x

I'd stick to wearing soft bras (not nursing ones necessarily) until you stop feeding but I'm sure loads of people don't. I'm not sure now what the advice is about underwiring and BF.

Hope this helps.

Many mothers have been told that underwire bras should not be worn while nursing. This is optimal but not always feasible for all mothers. Some mothers have worn underwire bras before becoming pregnant and feel comfortable in nothing less. Others, especially larger-busted moms, may require the extra support and lift that an underwire provides in order to achieve a good fit.

Underwire bras require good fitting even more so than softcup bras. An underwire bra that is too small will dig into, pinch, and bind the breast tissue, making plugged ducts and breast infections more likely. Mothers should never sleep in an underwire bra as it is more likely that the wires will compress the breast tissue with lying down for prolonged periods of time. If plugged ducts and/or breast infections are recurrent, the size of the underwire bra should be re-evaluated or it should be replaced with a softcup bra until weaning occurs. Generally, however, an underwire bra can be worn during the daytime as long as it fits well and the mother is not experiencing repeat episodes of plugged ducts or breast infection.
