Breastfeeding and have taken decongestants

Have been ill with covid all week and have taken decongestants (sudafed and sinutab) last 2 days. Stupidly didn't check whether I could while breastfeeding, have obviously now stopped. I understand decongestants effect milk supply. Can anyone provide some reassurance from similar situations?
My baby is 6 months and ebf. She came off the breast crying just now which makes me think she wasn't getting enough milk. Will my supply pick up again? Argh what a nightmare, I am so careful with my diet, can't believe how absent minded I've been!!

Imo it'll be completely fine. Those guidelines for things to avoid while BF are extremely cautious. I mean might as well stop taking them, as you have, but don't worry about the two days when you took them.

As for your baby pulling off while crying - I mean this gently, but how have you managed to BF for 6 whole months without discovering that happens all the jolly time lol! It doesn't mean anything, could have been a noise, a breath of wind, a passing thought in your baby's mind, whatever...!

It'll be completely fine

Ps hope your covid gets well soon. I also breastfed through two covid episodes and lost loads of weight both times because the whole famoly was ill and my dd only wanted BF (no other fluids or solids), I think she was 16mo the second time. It's exhausting isn't it.

We were all right as rain in a week or two though, hope you are too

Hey OP, pp is right in that medications can be extremely over cautious but that's usually in respect of causing harm to baby.

Decongestants can drastically reduce supply so I would avoid from now on.

I posted the exact same to my social media to ask fellow med professionals. The bottom two responses are from lactation consultants.

@Mummymummy89 morning, and thank you for your reply and reassurance.
Haha - I know there have been many tearful feeds 😆
Her tears just reminded me of a few weeks ago when I had food poisoning, hadn't been able to eat or drink properly for a day and my supply really dropped.

It is so tough isn't it, being ill and looking after a poorly little one too. She has been very unsettled and upset so assuming she also has covid. Looking forward to feeling better very soon and some more sleep. Thanks again

Don't beat yourself up, I did this too by accident a couple of weeks ago and thankfully supply seems to have been totally unaffected:)

So sorry you're both ill. As others have said, your milk supply will be more than established by now.

Sounds like she needs a bit of calpol and regular feeds. Hope you're able to have a sofa day Flowers
