Hi

Can anyone please help me, my son got his first tooth about a week ago and his second over the weekend, he is 9 1/5 months and he has two breastfeeds a day, one in the morning and then again at bedtime. The trouble is he has started to bit me, each time he has done this I have taken him off and said "no - dont bite" quite firmley and then put him back on again until he bites again and then done and said the same thing, the trouble is he drew blood tonight so I took him off and gave him some formula.

I feel quite sad about this as I fed my daughter until she was one and then she had cows milk from a cup and I wanted to do the same with my son. I dont want to stop feeding him but he is hurting me I feel this is ruining what has been an enjoyable experience.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried applying teething gel or giving him a cool teething ring to chew on for a few minutes before nursing ?

This worked for me:

Hah! (and OUCH!) I know what you're going through! The solution (for me) was pretty counter-intuitive. When he bites, instead of pulling away (obvious natural reaction, VERY painful!), draw him in to you so he can't breath through his nose and has to let go to breath through his mouth. My two soon learnt that biting wasn't a great idea.

Mine did this a few times after getting the first teeth. I pulled off. Lasted about a week then he stopped, I think he was just experimenting.
