I'm so poorly, I've got the shakes, I'm going hot and cold, I have a banging headache, I feel faint and my body aches I feel generally like crap.

The frozen breast milk is nearly all gone, so I sent DH out for some formula 'just in case'. I don't want to use it, but I feel 'safer' just for having it in the house.

I cant bear to be touched, my skin feels all prickly, and he thought of DD latching on just makes me want to cry.

Well then formula is the answer. It doesn't have to be forever, just a couple of days until you feel better. I guess you will have to express or you will explode but someone at least feeding the baby will allow you to recover quicker. Has your baby had a bottle before?

liahgen · 10/03/2008 21:33

do you think you may have mastitis? Would pop to docs in morn. How old is lo?

SenoraPostrophe · 10/03/2008 21:35

a few bottles of formula won't hurt, but will expressing be as horrible as gfeeding her?

Kbear · 10/03/2008 21:35

Just re-read you OP, you have frozen EBM so obv can take a bottle.

Look after yourself, let Dh take over. If you struggle on you will prolong your illness. And don't waste time feeling bad, guilty or whatever - needs must ok !

controlfreakyagain · 10/03/2008 21:35

you sound like you may have mastitis. you may need antibiotics urgently. have you sought medical advice??

fishie · 10/03/2008 21:35

have you taken any drugs? plenty of things you can take, only a few you can't.

WinkyWinkola · 10/03/2008 21:36

You sound like you have mastitis. Are your breasts sore and red? Or a horrid 'flu.

Be kind to yourself. Make sure you get well. Go to the doctor without a doubt.

littlemrsmiss · 10/03/2008 21:37

Paracetamol helps. I have had this twice myself and really sympathise with you . You will feel better soon.

bluejelly · 10/03/2008 21:38

Really does sound like mastitis. You should def go to the dr.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 10/03/2008 21:38

DD is 16 weeks tomorrow. I was thinking of mix feeding till I'm feeling a little better. DD has a bottle of EBM a day from DH, she takes th bottle no problem.

I've just gotten over a bout of mastitis and I was just starting to feel a lot better.

so many posts, I type so slow!!

I'll ring docs tomorrow, I didn't know I could take antib's for mastitis!! I've been taking paracetomol and lots of fresh hot honey and lemon drinks.

ggmm, do you have a bf counsellor you could speak to? if it is recurrent mastitis you need some expert advice.

fishie · 10/03/2008 21:46

look here at kellymom, lots of info, hope it helps.

morocco · 10/03/2008 22:36

if it is mastitis, the worst thing you could do is stop breast feeding. (check out kellymom weblink fishie has given)
if your dh can do every single bit apart from the actual feed, it will hopefully be mroe bearable eg bring you the baby, help position her on the bed, take her away afterwards etc
I had to feed with dd on the bed on her back and I was on all 4's kneeling over her - it was the only way there was no physical contact at all, all I could stand

just copied the bit about ab's as well in case your gp is not keen, see if it applies to you
When you have mastitis...

Talk to your DR about starting
antibiotics immediately if:

Mastitis is in both breasts.
Baby is less than 2 weeks old, or
you have recently been in the hospital.
You have broken skin on the nipple
with obvious signs of infection.
Blood/pus is present in milk.
Red streaking is present.
Your temperature increases suddenly.
Symptoms are sudden and severe

GoodGollyMissMolly · 11/03/2008 07:37

Thanks Fishie, I have a little bit of frozen breast milk left which I will be using today. DD latched on last night and it wans't as bad as I thought it would be so I've not used the formula yet. Hopefully I wont.

Morocco, thankfully none of those things refer to me.
Like I said I have just gotten over a bout of mastitis but this feels so much worse, all fluey and it's all my skin that hurts, not just my breasts.

My mum is coming round today to help as DH is on a late at work till 9pm, so I will feed DD when the EBM has run out and mum will do the rest. I love my mum

PLease please do get it checked out if you have any of the symptoms of mastitis. You can get recurring mastitis.
It can be very serious if not treated properly and effectively.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 11/03/2008 07:50

Thanks pooka, I'm gonna ring the docs when they open to see if they can fit me in today if not I'll make an appointment for whenever they can fit me in.

I have had mastitis 3 times now, it went from the left side to the right side to the left side, that is what I am only just getting over. It has been such a struggle to feed DD, and I was just starting to feel better and now this.

I'm sure I will be better soon though, thanks everyone

How are you feeling today GGMM?

GoodGollyMissMolly · 14/03/2008 17:10

bluejelly, I'm feeling a lot better now thanks. I'm still a bit sore and i couldn't get a GP's appointment until nest week so I don't think I will bother now that I am feeling better.

Also I didn't end up using the formula so the tin of formula is going off to SIl's so that it ownt get wasted.
