I've gone to mix feeding and think I've made a big mistake, can I go back?

I've gone from 10 feeds in 24 hrs a week ago to 4, but the bottle feeding isn't going well. My supply is definitely down, this morning I couldn't express anything. Can I go back to breastfeeding, is it worth me trying, has anyone done this?

I'm in the process of this and it is going very well.

Please read my thread further down

"moving from mixed feeding back to breast....." and let me know if you want any other advise.

I'd be very glad to help you through this as I am thrilled that it is working out for me.

newmum07 - of course it is possible! Pecka's story is worth reading, as she says. You can call any of the bf helplines and talk about it, and maybe a bf counsellor will see you if needs be....but a phone call may be enough.

How old is your baby and why did you introduce the formula?

Good luck

I Started to indroduce formula last thing at night due to a very unsettled dd and found even though dd was more settled I felt very guilty. I have now cut out the formula at night and things are ok now.

All I can say is keep trying to BF and hopefully the milk supply will increase

Thanks so much for all your support, Pecka I've read your story & feel much better now. This morning I thought my supply was so low I would have to give up but I've done 3 feeds this afternoon so am hopeful now.
I introduced formula because I was exhausted doing so many feeds a day, however formula hasn't turned out to be the easy option I thought it was going to be and he hasn't taken it well. DS is 4 months.

It is definitely possible newmum07. My dd was actually only ff for an entire week (long long story) but we gradually managed to reintroduce bf, and are now down to 2 and a half bottles a day and the rest bf. Basically,I just needed to put my life on hold and put her to the breast as often as humanly possible. This translates as all morning and all evening- afternoons I try to leave the house! I had some good advice from mn too - www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1364&threadid=445370#9015537 - thanks everyone!

It is definitely possible, and definitely worth continuing to try.
I had a terrible bug last November, my Dd was 10 months. My milk supply went to almost nothing for almost two weeks due to my not being able to keep anything down, but I just continued to put her to the breast often and it did come back...she's nearly 15 months now and I feed her on demand still.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone for this, I don't think I would have even tried had I not seen these stories that it was possible. Anyway my supply is increasing and today I've breastfed all day with no bottles and he has gone to sleep tonight so must be OK!
