My 8 month old dd has decided over the last week that she only wants a bottle of milk first thing in the morning and then perhaps an ounce or two in the afternoon. And that's it. She was having a 6oz bottle at bedtime but refuses this now. She's sleeping through from 7pm to 6.30 am most nights and has a hearty appetite for real food. I try and give her plenty of dairy in her diet ie. porridge for breakfast, goulash with greek youghurt for lunch, and a yoghurty pudding at tea time. Is this enough? I can't see any way of making her drink more milk. She drinks juice and water with her meals and seems to be thriving. Any thoughts?! Thanks

My son went through a phase of this a month ago, when he was 8 months. I phoned a doctor to speak to them, and they said that as long as they were getting fluids and happy, then go with it.

It was a phase and passed, but it seems like your dd is happy if she is still sleeping. I used to use formula to mix in with things to ensure he was getting enough vitamins etc.

my ds did this on the breast. will have a bf (not huge) first thing in the am, and a bottle at about 10 pm (4-5oz). and that's it. i do what you're doing, and pour in the dairy with her diet. i mentioned it to the health visitor, who pointed out he is thriving and not to worry about it.

he's now 10 months and still does it (jealous thoughts at your 7-6.30 nights!) so i don't think it's a phase for him, but he continues to thrive.

it sounds like you are doing it right to me.

Well, that's a relief! Thanks so much...it's been quite a worry for me and now i feel reassured. What will the next worry be I wonder?! x

My dd is 15yrs old and she did this with milk at 9 weeks old (in those olden days you could wean a baby at 12 weeks) she would have juice and water but only milk at bedtime was worried sick but now she still doesnt like milk but has fruit cheese etc some children just go off milk if he is thriving I would just leave him to it and not worry

yes, dd has never been all that keen on her milk. She's got reflux which was a nightmare when she was just drinking milk and she definitely prefers proper grub. I weaned her very gradually at about 16 weeks after seeking medical advice but she did carry on having a decent amount of formula until now that is. I must say I don't like milk! And that formula milk smells of farts!
