Fussy feeder

Hi all! My 13 week old has become really fussy with feeds. For the last 3 weeks he's been having 210mls and feeds every 4 hours. Since Sunday he's been quite unsettled/fussy during the day and has really gone off his milk having about 100-150mls ish each feed. He pushes the bottle away, turns his head and bites the teat.

He was on aptamil anti reflux (as suggested by doctor) which helped with it massively but was really unsettled with his tummy and really constipated. Wednesday last week i changed his formula to Hipp organic and he's no longer constipated which is great and his reflux isn't too bad too.

Now I don't know whether he doesn't like the new formula and that's why he's not really wanting it or whether it's his age and he's going through a fussy phase? Also he is really chewing his hands and dribbling loads.. his cheeks are flushed so wondered if he could be teething although thought he would be too young to be teething.

Anyone else been through a similar thing?

If you think it could be teething the usual thing to do is to give him a dose of calpol and see if his next feed improves.

I would think though that this sounds more like it could be CMPA.

I'm wondering whether it's an age thing .. the health visitor didn't seem to concerned when I told her... does yours eventually finish the bottle?

TwinMummaX · 07/10/2023 15:55

Not all the time over the last 2 days hes finished only 2 of his bottles, leaving 2/3 ounces. He finished the last one but it took about 50minutes of stop/ starting. Hes not crying just moving his head side to side and biting the teat. Also if i keep eye contact with him he starts smiling/ babbling and gets distracted. I hope it is just a phase because im worried about him losing weight if it carries on i dont know what else to do

Me too! I can't make eye contact as he smiles too and then definitely won't take the bottle. He seems to be worse in the evenings.
How's yours been today?

TwinMummaX · 15/10/2023 22:23

@Daffodil0407 sorry only just seen this! Hes been a bit up and down with his intake. Not so good the last 2 days leaving 3oz a lot of the time. But today hes finished most of his bottles. I really hope its just a phase. Hows your LO been doing?

Mines been the same really. I’d say once maybe twice a day he would finish a 7oz bottle otherwise he’s leaving 2-3oz … he used to go 4 hours between feeds but now I’m finding where he’s not having as much now he’s going between 3-4. Hopefully it is a phase 🤞🏼

@pm94 did this get better for you x

pm94 · 13/11/2023 16:33

Hey yes it did … he is still really distracted now and we have to go back to the bottle over the space of like an hour and he doesn’t always finish it. I wondered whether he had silent reflux so he has been on omeprazole for about 3 weeks so not sure if that has helped or whether it was just a fussy phase. Are you going through the same too? X
