Dropping feeds

Hi, I posted in Weaning but got no replies, so I’ll just post briefly here…

DD is 11m and I’d like to start dropping breastfeeds. Currently feeds before both day naps (9.30am and 2pm) and before bed. She usually feeds to sleep but has stopped doing that this week as she’s sick.

If you fed to sleep - what did you do to get baby to sleep for a nap when you dropped a feed? Did you sleep train or rock them? Did you create a new pre nap routine?

I'm not breastfeeding as I struggled with my premie but the only way to get my baby to sleep without feed is to rock him whilst walking. Works all the time when he's tired of course. Just so you know, some don't recommend it just because they get used to you rocking them to sleep but I don't mind as I've really struggled to get him to nap in the cot. I used to give a dummy which used to help him sleep himself in the cot but he just refuses it now completely. I didn't really give him a dummy as a newborn, only did for appointments or going out when he was around a month or 2 old.

"Struggled to get him to nap in the cot" meaning he would never nap himself while in the cot.
Another thing I found useful when he was a younger infant, bum taps while holding him closely to my chest and my husband used to rock him in an upright position whilst my husband lay down and he was lying in between my husband's thighs. (This doesn't work for my 5 month old anymore)

I'd say 3 feeds at 11 months is fine. They'll be dropping one nap soon anyway so will probably drop that feed too.

Are you wanting to stop BFing?

Sorry forget my comments, I can see that you do want to start dropping feeds.
