tips for encouraging baby to accept expressed milk from bottle

I'd read that there was a window of opportunity for getting babies to accept bottled breast milk and duly got my baby to take a bottle at 6 weeks. We did a few bottles over a couple of weeks and all went well. Then, out of laziness more than anything else, a few weeks passed without me expressing. I spent ages preparing milk last week to give my now 11 week old baby a bottle on Sunday at a big family ocassion. Was totally gutted when he rejected it, seemingly outraged. Was heart breaking to pour 2 whole bottles of milk down the drain at the end of the day.

Any tips on encouraging him to take a bottle from time to time? I really want to be able to leave him with family from time to time.

Yeah . Look at Kellymom . Great website.

Its all there ...if you can find it .

We had EXACTLY the same scenario ....It all sortes itself out in the end . Keep trying .. Prehaps let lo play with a bottle of water when in a good mood .
Usual tips are heat milk , heat teat ( carefully )......Try with dad , Try different teats ............

If all that Fails ....we sneakily used a Nuk Latex Teat ...whick was exactly the same consistency as his NUK latex Dodie ..i mean soother . That fooled Him ....(grin)

OOooooh one other tip . The time my ds rejected a bottle on the first Crucial occasion....I was laster shocked to discover that my ebm HAD gone off (despite all usual precautions )
It had a nasty sour after taste .

I was later to discover that my EBM has a very short shelf life .
.....Lots on Kellymom about this too . GOOD luck !!

you can try everything and i mean everything possible and they may still not take a huge amount. my dd will take about 2oz max at a time but she seems to manage till i get back and is perfectly happy and hydrated, just takes huge feeds when reunited - some just will not take a full bottle!!
