I’m due to have my baby in about 5 weeks and I’m still undecided on how I want to feed them. I’m a first time mum and this is really stressing me out, I feel like I know nothing 😔 I want to try breastfeeding I think… But I don’t want to do it for too long, can you breastfeed for like a month and then move them to formula????? Help 😩

I would have a go at breastfeeding in the beginning as it is easier to swap from breastfeeding to bottle. You may find it works for you and then you can do mixed feeding when breastfeeding is established. You may have to persevere a bit with breastfeeding as you and the baby are learning together. The key thing is to do what works best for you and your family.

Yes, you can breastfeed for as short or as long as you like. Personally I ended up loving breastfeeding (found it so very convenient) and ended up doing it for much longer than I’d planned/expected. Whereas my DSIL had wanted to breastfeed but ended up exclusively bottle-feeding. All our DCs thrived.

Agree with pp that starting with breastfeeding gives you the opportunity to then carry on or not so if you’re not sure then start and see how you get on and do what works for you and your little one.

Sorry it’s stressing you out. Are you coming under pressure from somewhere about this? Or is it more that the whole of being a new mum is this big change coming up and this is a concrete thing where your worries are focusing?

I went into it with an open mind. Both babies breastfed to a certain extent but for medical reasons we switched to formula after 7 weeks and 3 days respectively.

Try breastfeeding but expect it to be quite different to what you might read about it or be told about it pre birth. If it doesn't work it's no issue changing to formula, I just did a straight swap!

You can absolutely BF for as long as you want. It's always best to give up when you or baby de ides it's time and if it's a month then that's fine Wink
